Richards, Secretary of Commerce Ogden Chamber TEADY AND SOLID growth marks the progress of Ogden City year by year, and the year that is now passing is no exception. Ogden is predominant in the Intermountain region as a railway center, packing house center, livestock center, grain milling center, grain handling center. Ogden capital controls the principal industries of this section, especially the sugar factories, canning factories, the creameries, the milling and elevator business, the packing industry and the livestock companies. Ogden’s already spacious railroad yards are now being enlarged so that the railroads may be able to adequately handle the increased amount of transcontinental traffic now passing through Ogden. The Union Pacific Railroad Company recently purchased a large acreage adjacent to the railroad yards, and are extending their freight yards by adding a large number of additional tracks. The Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroad Companies have this year jointly constructed a new Union Depot at Ogden, at a cost of about $450,000. This Depot is one of the finest in the entire country. Many new buildings will be constructed in Ogden during 14925. The Weber Gymnasium just completed at a cost of $200,000. The Peery Egyptian Theatre was completed early last year, at a cost of $350,000. Scenic Beauty Abounds It is generally conceded that the scenic beauty and grandeur revealed nearby Ogden is unsurpassed in the United States, or in any other country. A view from Mount Ogden presents more of the handiwork of Nature than can be seen from any other peak in the United States, is a claim made and never disputed. From that elevation, two miles above the ocean and one mile above the city, may be seen several states, many cities, expanse of splendidly cultivated farms and Th many mountain chains and peaks, and the Great a ake. The principal scenic attraction is Ogden Canyon, just east of the city. This famous and beautiful gorge attracts thousands of visitors each year by its magnificient scenery, which is unsurpassed. A trip can be made through this Canyon to the City Wells ten miles from the city over the finest paved mountain highway in the world and requiring but one hour’s time for the round trip. Thirty-four large artesian wells which now supply over two million gallons of water every twenty-four hours, the dryest season having apparently no effect upon this ‘quantity or quality of the flow. This flow is piped a distance of about ten miles and delivered into two cement reservoirs in the foothills in the east city limits. Ogden City with its immediate suburbs shows a population of 43,600. The city is enjoying a substantial growth, as is evidenced by the strong financial condition of all the banks of Ogden and further by the fact that during the past three years more than 1600 brick bungalows have been constructed in Ogden, averaging more than 500 new brick homes per year. The information contained in the 1925 issue of the Ogden Directory indicates the continued development of the second largest city of Utah.
