Show Sy we Farm Organizations HE AUTOMOBILE made it possible for the farmers of Weber County When to associate more conveniently and to discuss their problems. it was proposed that a Farm Bureau be organized in Weber County, there was no obstacle. In 1915 the organization was effected and three hundred and twenty The officers were: D. D. McKay, president; J. R. Beus, members joined. vice-president; W. M. Patterson, secretary and treasurer; W. P. Thomas, county agent. By a favorable 1917 the accomplishments of these men began to make impression, and new many members joined, making the total nine hundred and four members, or seventy per cent of the Weber County farmers. They chose the following projects for special consideration: weed eradication, This same year, through cooperpotato growing, dairying, and drainage. Today the Bureau is still experimenting, and investigating farm problems. The projects chosen for 1929 are: dairying, poultry, seeds, socials, and boys’ club work. The officers who will supervise this activity are: George Stallings, president; L. D. Brown, vice-president; Miss Doris Browning, secretary and treasurer. Two years after the first organization, the Women’s Farm Bureau was Mrs. E. Barnes was chosen president; Mrs. J. L. Ritter, vice-presiformed. Mrs. At present, dent; and Mrs. Joseph Ririe, secretary and treasurer. Murray K. Jacobs is president. The projects are nutrition, clothing, and home management. Besides the Farm Bureau, there are other organizations at work. The Weber Central Dairy Association, Utah Poultry Producers’ Association, and Weber County Vegetable Growers’ Association exemplify the importance of union. The new machinery and improved methods of irrigation are benefactors to agriculture, but the farm organization insures the producer a market for his produce. : Page Ninety-four |
