Show SPEECH TWO 2nd row: McDowell, ORATORY—Ist row: Spencer, Smith, Robson, Stuart, Johnson, Watts, Graham. Salmond, Mr. Graves, Siler, Fuller, Parker, Mildon, Nickolaisen, Rutherford, Storey, Carlson, Oakes. As the curtain went up on the 1948-49 year, debators, orators, panelists and those Randall, inter- ested in extemp filed into Mr. Graves speech II class. The outstanding achievement of the students who take speech is an example of the progress being made in the forensic department. It is not only educational but highly enjoyable to the students who participate. Here they were given the challenge to defend Weber in speech meets and to defend the title of State Champions in debate for the last two years. Throughout the year the Speech II class exchanged visits with various schools such as East, West, Davis and entered several speech meets including Weber College, Region |, State Speech meets and also the invitational Meets such as the D.A.R. Oratorical Contests and the S.A.R. Oratorical contest. And when the curtain fell as the school year ended the seniors left the school of Weber knowledge that they had and Speech II but with them they took-valuable experience and gained in speech. SPEECH | WINNERS Winners in the District Soeech Meet who represented Weber High at B.Y.U. April 9. Barbara Newey entered in Dramatic reading; James Parker in Pantomime; Murle Graham in Retold Story; and Norma Lichfield in Humorous Reading. All four received a superior rating.
