Three two-hour periods a week during the first semester. Domestic Arts d.The hemming and monograming of table linen, the making of fine lingerie and summer dresses. Three two-hour periods a week during the second semester. Domestic Arts e.Drafting and advanced dressmaking, including winter and party dresses. Two three-hour periods a week during the first semester. Domestic Arts f.A continuation of course e. Students fit each other under the supervision of the teacher, and much practice is given in the making of various patterns. Two three-hour periods a week during the second semester. Domestic Art g.French eyelet, Punch work, Venetian, Macrame and the various kinds of embroidery are worked in this course. Three two-hour periods a week during the first semester. Domestic Arts h.A continuation of course g and the making of the graduating dress. Three two-hour periods a week during the second semester. Domestic Science. Domestic Science a (Foods).A study of the five food principles, their relation to the human body, the effect of different degrees of heat upon their nutri- WEBER ACADEMY 49 tive value and digestibility. Each girl tests for herself the theory she learns in class by making practical experiments in the laboratory. A study of the sources, manufacture, marketing and care of foodstuffs. Three two-hour periods per week, first semester. Domestic Science b.The girls are given the practical work in the preparing of egg dishes; in the cooking of all kinds of meats, vegetables, fruits, bread and simple desserts; table service, duties of waitress and hostess and the serving of a luncheon. Three two-hour periods per week during the second semester. Domestic Science c (Home Construction).A study of the development of man's habitation to the present time. Advantages and disadvantages of location in country, city, near bodies of water, mountain districts, inlands, etc. Also drainage, water supply, plan of house, relative value of building material, plumbing, heating, lighting, decoration and furnishing of each room. Special attention of color scheme and good lines in furniture. Three hours per week first twelve weeks of second year. Domestic Science d (Household Management). Systematic housekeeping from the view of economizing time, saving health, promoting happiness of inmates, also keeping of accounts and division of income. Three hours per week second twelve weeks of second year. Domestic Science e (Home Sanitation).Study of household bacteriology, surroundings of dwelling, |
