Show 32 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Weber College grants the title of Associate of Arts, the title of Associate of Science, a Certificate of Completion, and a Certificate of Proficiency. REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSOCIATE OF ARTS OR ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE A student must complete at least ninety quarter hours of approved college work, exclusive of physical education, for the title of Associate of Arts or Associate of Science. Specific Course Requirements 90 quarter hours, exclusive of physical education activities. Basic Communications (English 1, 2, 3). Orientation 1 or 11, or Engineering 40 and 41. Health Education 1 or 2. Physical Education selected activities for three quarters. Four quarter hours of laboratory work to be completed in the Life Sciences, in the Physical Sciences, or in both. Area Requirements A student may make a choice between either of two plans. The first plan calls for 9 quarter hours credit in general education courses of each of four groups, and the second plan calls for 12 quarter hours credit in more specialized courses of each of four groups. A student with special problems and a student who needs specific courses for his major field may satisfy the general education requirements as an alternate to Plan 1 and 2 by substituting courses which are approved by the Division Chairman and the Graduation Committee. HUMANITIES 9 hours in Humanities 1, 2 and 3, or 12 hours from at least two different subject fields of the following: Art 3, 11; English 21, 22, 23, 27, 31, 39, 40, 41, 42, 44, 47; German 12; French 12, Spanish 12; Speech 27, 28, 29; Philosophy 3, 10 or 15, 16; Music 7, 8, 9. LIFE SCIENCES 9 hours in Life Science 1 and 2, or 12 hours from at least two different departments of the following; Bacteriology 1; Biology 6, 12; Botany 1, 5, 6, 7; Life Science 1; Physiology 1; Zoology 1 or 4, 7. (If Life Science 1 is elected in the 12 hours, it should be completed prior to taking other courses). MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICAL, SCD3NCES 9 hours in Physical Science 1 and 2, or 12 hours including either a course in Physics or Chemistry and a course in Geology or Geography. The courses shall be chosen from Chemistry 1; Georgraphy 1. 2, 3, 11; Geology 1 or 11, 3, 5; Physics 3, 10, 14, 21; Physical Science 11. SOCIAL SCIENCES 9 hours in Social Science 1 and 2, or 12 hours from at least two different subject fields of the following; Anthropology 1; Economics 1, 2, or 4; History 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15: Philosophy 1, 2, 4, 10; Political Science 1, 3, 4; Psychology 1, 3; Sociology 1, 2, 4, 8. 33 In the Division where there is a specific curriculum prescribed, the completion for the curriculum listed substitutes for the above general requirements. The titles of Associate of Arts and Associate of Science are designed for college transfer students. A candidate for the title of Associate of Arts must have a minimum of 15 quarter hours credit of one foreign language or two units of one foreign language in high school with at least one additional course in the same language completed in college. Three high school units of one and the same language completed in high school satisfies the Associate of Arts requirements. It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in the Humanities quality for the title of Associate of Arts. A student contemplating work beyond the bachelor's degaee should complete the foreign language requirements in his lower division work. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION Completion of at least ninety quarter hours of approved college work, exclusive of physical education activities. Specific Course Requirements 90 quarter hours, exclusive of physical education activities. Orientation 1 or 11. Health Education 1 or 2. Physical Education selected activities for three quarters. The successful completion of the two-year terminal course as outlined in the Catalogue. The Dean of Faculty has the authority to modify the above graduation requirements according to the needs of the individual. The Certificate of Completion is primarily designed for students who desire to complete their formal education at the close of the second college year. |
