| Biographical/Historical Note |
This horse drawn sleigh was used by the family of Horace Luman Shurtleff (1871-1948) for transportation in the winter when roadways were frozen. In later years, snowy roads were plowed and sanded, making them unfit for sleigh runners. However, William H. (Bill) Shurtleff (1916-2011) used this sleigh occasionally into the 1960s as a novelty and for recreation on a wintery day before the snow plow cleared the street. The photo on the left shows Roma Hall Shurtleff (1922-2013) is seated on the sleigh. |
