Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY March 2005 The first Annual Marriott-Slaterville City Easter Egg Hunt was held at 11:00 a.m. on March 26, 2005, at the Slaterville Park. It was sponsored by the Marriott-Slaterville Youth Council, under the direction of Emily Allred. It was an eggs-tremely successful event, with lots of eggs hidden by the Council, and discovered by a large crowd of eager children aged 1 to 12 years. In the February/March 2005 Pioneer Post, the announcement was made that ground would be soon broken on the new municipal building and senior center at 1600 West 400 North. The building should be finished by September or October 2005. A July 4th auction will be held to raise funds for the new equipment and furnishings which will be needed in the senior center. Community members were asked to donate items for the auction. An Arbor Day Poster Contest for the city was announced, along with its rules. The winning posters will be exhibited in the city office. Entrants were asked to contact Lynette Deru if they wished to submit a poster to the National Arbor Day Poster Contest, as well as our local one. Recent floods have occurred and are currently occurring with our state. Good advice with FEMA pointers for what to do before a flood, during a flood, and after a flood were given in this issue. At the March 17, 2005, City Council meeting, business licenses were approved for Mishelle Stott Graphic Design, 123 North 2550 West, Logos, business cards, letterhead; Velocity Paintball, L.L.C., Vern Allen, 3105 West Pioneer Road, paintball/amusement; Hamblin and Son Yard Care, 783 South 1200 West, #A, part-time yard care, and Real Estate Exchange, Mark Nelson, 1343 West 12th Street, real estate. Velocity Paintball requires a Conditional Use Permit from the Planning Commission, so that approval was contingent upon obtaining that permit. We welcome these new businesses to our community. Some amendments to the FY 2004-05 budget are necessary due to new developments, including the construction of the office and senior citizen building. A public hearing on the amendment was set for April 21, 2005. The tentative FY 2005-06 was approved, with a hearing on the proposed final budget also set for that date. After discussion, the recommendation for the Marriott-Slaterville Business Park, 1263 West 1700 South: KBC Leasing, was approved. Some issues on storm and secondary water need to be worked out with the developer. The revised plans for the new municipal building and senior center were shown to the council by President Dennis Ilium. The members were pleased with the design. Mayor Keith Butler reported that after speaking with the county commissioners about the weight limit signs for 1200 West, he received permission to post them on Weber County property. Mayor Jimmie Papageorge of Farr West City is not in agreement with the posting, and will not allow the signs placed in his city. The signs are being made and will be placed when completed. The sheriff's office has been advised of the new weight limits. Problems which arise with irrigation ditches should be addressed through the irrigation company involved and not the city. |
