Show Marriott Slaterville City History April 2005 The Kier Corporation signed the contract to construct our new municipal building on April 19, 2005, and will start construction immediately. Everything looks "go" for this important step in our city's future. This is surely a time for all of our residents to rejoice in the advancement. It is also a time to thank the Mayor, the staff, council members, and committee members for their hard work in our behalf. Arbor Day this year was April 29, 2005. Lynette Deru, conducting the poster contest, received posters from Susan Bodily, Dorothy Dalebout, Kaitlyn Holley and Chris Freston. The interesting and innovative drawings were displayed in the city offices. Joe Deru displayed a wooden bowl he had turned to the city, in commemoration of Arbor Day. Community members were asked to join a volunteer city orchestra, if they can play an instrument on at least a high school level. Woodwinds, brass, string and percussion players are all needed. Erin Holley is in charge of this endeavor. A business license for ARMR, LLC 3 Day Outlet was approved at the April 21, 2005 council meeting. The business is currently in operation under another license, but they would like a new license for their general merchandise retail sales. The city had not been receiving sales tax under the current license; these may have been going to another city. Bill Morris has discussed this with the owners and feels the problem has been corrected. Kelly Aiken resigned from the planning commission for personal reasons. Mayor Butler has appointed Rick Taylor to finish out the rest of Mr. Aiken's term. After hearing about Mr. Taylor's background and feelings, the council approved the appointment. A public hearing was held at this time on the amended FY 2004-05 budget, where Mr. Morris briefly explained the changes. No public comment was offered. The staff then presented the final budget for 2005-06. Mr. Orvil Holley asked about health insurance for employees, asking that the city look closely into the matter. He also noted that the dead end portion of 700 South has been in poor condition the past winter. It has been fixed recently, but may need more frequent repair. President Ilium said this can be included on the list of roads to repair this year. After the public hearing was closed and the public meeting re-opened, the council discussed the two budgets again. The resolution amending the FY 2004-05 was approved. The increase of development fees, maintenance cost of parks if the city obtains them from the L. D. S. Church, the cost of utilities for the new building, and health insurance for employees were all discussed. The Resolution to approve the FY 2005-06 budget was approved. The resolution to include our city within the Weber Area Dispatch 911 and Emergency Services District, as proposed by Weber County, was discussed and approved. Voters will have a chance to vote on funding the district at the November 2005 election. The request by Richard Boud to amend the zoning ordinance to allow storage unit facilities in the A-1 zone was discussed. The council members liked some of Mr. Boud's plans, but not the zone proposed. The passage of the ordinance failed. The staff was directed to refer the matter to the planning commission to further address. Ordinance 2005-04 adopting the public nuisance abatement law was passed after discussion concerning present and potential nuisance problems and enforcement. The new weight limit signs for 1200 West are finished and were to be posted next week. Mr. Blake Wahlen from the Boyer Company has asked that the Mayor change his mind about the limit, so trucks could access BDO. President Ilium informed him that 2nd Street could be used. A fatal crash on 1-15 near the 450 North exit killed Randy Ficklin from Provo. |
