Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY December 2002 The Planning Commission became fully staffed on December 19, 2002, when the City Council unanimously approved Mayor Butler's appointment of Kent Meyerhoffer to fill the remaining vacancy. Mr. Meyerhoffer has a genuine interest in this community in which he lived all his life. Steve Davis, an independent auditor, advised the City Council that his firm has completed the annual audit and has prepared the financial statements. They found the City's finances in good condition. Mr. Ken Martin met with the City Council and expressed his enthusiasm at beginning employment in March 2003. He has worked on a contract basis for the City for several years. Councilman Orvil Holley reported a recent incident where someone was dumping dirt near a creek in the community and tracking mud on the road. Mr. Martin went to the scene and ensured compliance with the law. Mr. Holley commended him for his prompt action. The Council voted unanimously to approve the negotiated salary as required by Resolution 2002-J. President Dennis Ilium has looked into the issue of RDAs as an option to help develop the City. Several individuals have asked the City for an RDA to help them develop certain areas. He feels uncomfortable with developers pushing their agenda on RDAs as he feels the Council better knows the needs, problems, and plans for the City. He suggested that Council members should educate themselves about RDAs in order to deal wisely with the situations. Two possible sites that might benefit from an RDA would be on 12th Street, east of the canal, and on 17th Street. As a beginning for garnering needed information, Bill Morris was asked to invite Randy Sant, an RDA consultant, to meet with the Council sometime next year. Ogden has told our City that the office must be moved from the present building in March 2003. There are some options on where to move. Ogden may offer building 5-X, but the rent is not known. Cape Construction has offered its main building near 12th Street for $1000 per month, including utilities. A Christmas Party to honor volunteers and members of boards and commissions in the community began at 7:00 p.m. on December 19, 2002. A special thank-you goes to Becky Burt who organized the party and prepared the light meal. About 50-60 people attended the party and enjoyed visiting and the food. No Volunteer of the Month Community Service Award was given for the month of December. Bits and Pieces Cameron Koford has contributed to the University of Utah men's basketball success again this season. He played 20 minutes in San Diego on Monday, December 23, 2002, making 12 points, six rebounds and a blocked shot in the Utes' road victory. Lindsey Slater, Rocky Mountain Junior High, was named December's Student of the Month by the Elks Club. The award brought her $50 and a gift certificate for a family dinner. |
