Show arrived in Utah; and on November fifth of that year, she married John Marriott. Being of a young age when she married John, one of John's other wives gave him the advice to give her some time to mature. He abided by this counsel and Teresa did not have her first child until she was 20 years of age. They were the parents of eight children, Charles being the fifth. Charles Arthur Marriott was born May 6, 1870 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. His birth took place in the family two-story adobe home located on the northeast corner of Washington Ave. and Twenty-third Street. All of his. brothers and sisters were born there except Mary Ann, the first child, who was born in Marriott then known as Marriottsville. At the time of Charles birth, Ogden was a growing, thriving pioneer town. It was the railroad terminal of the West, but the most popular mode of travel was the horse and buggy. Charles, like most of his brothers and sisters, inherited brown eyes and dark hair and was of medium complexion. He grew to be a handsome young man with a fine physique and a six-foot-two-inch stature. SISTERS and BROTHERS Charles was blessed with five brothers and three sisters. Their spouses, dates of marriage and children are as follows: The eldest child was Mary Ann Marriott, a beautiful girl of dark-brown hair and eyes. She married James Michael Shupe on November 20, 1879. She died in childbirth on May 11, 1891. The child died within days of its mother. Edward Marriott grew to be a handsome, tall man who married Martha Wayment about 1883. They had one son, Arthur. They were later divorced. His second marriage was to Lilly Merrill on October 11, 1898. They had one daughter, Edna. Eliza (Lisle) Marriott had beautiful auburn hair and brown eyes. She married William James Gunnell Lauder on February 21, 1893. They had two daughters: Teresa and Lisle. David Marriott died as an infant of six months. Then came Charles and his marriage to Mary Agnes Farley on March 28, 1894. They had seven children. Brigham Marriott, like his sister Lisle, had auburn hair and dark eyes. He married Malinda Fidelia Leavitt on June 30, 1897. They had seven children as follows: Delia LaRue, Virginia, Charles Elmer (died as an infant), Arthur Golden, Grace Cynthia, Arlin Brigham, and John Emery, Ida May Marriott grew to be a tall, beautiful woman with long black hair and black eyes. She married Daniel Alfred Creamer on January 24, 1894. They had the following six children. Gladys Caroline, Alfred Marriott, Arthur James, Charles Augustus, Harry Kirk, and John LaMar. The last child of John and Teresa was Israel Marriott who died as a child of three years on May 1, 1881. Charles Arthur also had twenty-seven half brothers and sisters. As Charles and his brothers and sisters grew up in the family home, they found their father to be a great disciplinarian. The |
