Show stop to admire the sight. In 1971, they moved to a new home in San Jose, California, where they continued their tradition of masterful landscaping and gardening. Orion was blessed with a photographic mind. His remarkable memory covered the span of his life, and he remembered incidents that others had long forgotten. He recalled his father taking him duck hunting down Twelfth Street and jack rabbit hunting near Garland. These remembrances of his father were very special. Orion has always been proud and appreciative of the talents of his gifted sister, Ida. Over the years, he enjoyed listening to Ida play on the piano and organ tunes from years past as well as current hits. As an adult, he took private coronet lessons and was member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, Herman Baker Post #9 of the American Legion in Ogden. Orion was generous giving of his means, labor, and time to his brothers and sisters. He has shared in the joy of their getting their homes. He was especially considerate of his widowed sister, Ida. All of this generosity was with the cooperation and help of a loyal, supportive wife. He was a very dutiful son. After moving to California, he wrote to his mother each week and was always considerate of her needs. He visited his parents each Christmas and Memorial Day until they passed on. An annual tradition of Charlotte and Orion's was to travel each Memorial Day to Ogden where they cleaned and trimmed graves of their loved ones prior to placing flowers many of which had been brought from their gardens in California. They returned home at least twice a year at Christmas time and Memorial Day for over 50 years. They traveled to Alaska, the Hawaii Islands, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and extensively throughout the United States. Though other relatives had often visited Orion and Charlotte's home in Millbrae, Orion's father had always been too busy working to make the journey. Knowing how much father had wanted to visit, Orion arranged a trip after Charles's retirement. He took his mother and father to Oregon and Washington and down the coast to his home. It was in his son's home that Charles took ill and passed away within a few days. Orion retired after thirty-nine years of service and Charlotte after thirty-two years at the Southern Pacific Railroad general offices in San Francisco. Throughout Orion's life, he exemplified special traits that have enriched all that knew him kindness, sympathy, and locality have always abounded. Orion and Charlotte have set an example of love, devotion, and cooperation as it should be in every marriage. They both shared the same principles of Christian livinglove of family and friends and charity to all.
