All that is necessary to accomplish this, is a firm determination to "endure to the end." This school stands for character and don't you think it weakens us if we permit circumstances to overcome us and make us stop before our course is finished? One author says, "Man is master of thought, the moulder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances." Now is the time to begin to review and apply ourselves to our lessons, don't wait until the last week or even the last month but get down to deep hard thinking now. Study each lesson every day, so that the first of June will be a happy day for all of us. "Like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Easter is the festival of our Lord's The Acorn 17 resurrection. This day has been kept holy for about fifteen centuries by all Christianity. It is the day when Christ received new life, it is the time when our souls should over-flow with thanksgiving to our Father in Heaven for instituting a plan whereby we may have the privilege of returning to Him. In the early church Easter was considered the most important festival. When Easter morning dawned every one in his best attire assembled at the church. Each one seemed to be filled with new life and renewed hope. All toil and labor ceased for all desired to join in the celebration. Easter time is the season when all nature awakens, the sap rises in the trees and is distributed to every branch and bud, the grass becomes green, and all the vegetation receives new life. Now students, why don't we take advantage of our new energy and apply it to study rather than give up to the prevailing disease, Spring Fever. It may seem hard to go into school when it is so pleasant outside but by going in we gain more than one victory; first the victory over self and second in the Spring we can learn much more, when we do concentrate our minds on our lessons. EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY As students, we wish to express our deepest sympathy for our teacher, Sylvester D. Bradford, and his family in their sorrow. In as much as the Lord has seen fit to call Russel home, we know that it is for the best. Often we do not understand why these things have to come to us, but our Heavenly Father can see much farther into the future than we, He knows best, and we should acknowledge His hand in them. There are some choice spirits that the Lord places on earth, and soon calls home again. So it is with this little life that has bright ened so many lives here: he has gone where his light can shine farther and where his sweet influence can be felt in wider spheres. His soul will live in expectation of meeting his kind parents and friends, in that brighter, happier life. This man with his dusky skin and gray hair, is a highly esteemed savant, a famous journalist. His profound knowledge of Sandskrit has given him an incontestable authority in that language, yet has not prevented him from acquiring a complete mastery of European History. He edits two journals one in his own language, and one in English. He has twice undergone imprison- |
