Show 20 ACORN the game and finished with a score of 50 to 29. Sub-guard Lindsay of Weber played during the larger part of this game and amused the spectators several times by "putting" the ball over a man nearly twice as tall as he. Following this was the game between Payson and Richfield. They were evenly matched and so Payson was able to win by only three points. Fastest Basket Ball Game Ever Played in Utah. This left us to play the L. D. S. for first place. Following is the account of the game from the Salt Lake Tribune, and also a statement from Coach Bennion of the University in a letter to Ben Marker: "In one of the fastest basket-ball games that has ever been played in Utah, the L. D. S. U. team of Salt Lake at the Y. M. C. A. last night defeated the Weber Academy team of Ogden, the score being 37 to 35. By winning this game the Saints won the state high school basket ball championship for the season of 1910-1911. The two teams were the only teams which played the first part of the tournament without a defeat, thereby qualifying for the championship fray. "The game last night was a whirlwind from start to finish and it was neither team's game until the final whistle. The Junction City lads played the better game throughout and should have won on merit, but luck was against them, and try hard as they did, they could not finish in the lead. The Weber team was lighter, but what it lacked in this it made up in speed and grit. "The Weber team played one of the cleanest games that has ever been played in the city and whenever fouled it was owing to unintentional work, while on the other hand, the Saints played a rough game and got away with numerous rough plays. They played for time during the second half, but not so much as in the preceding games. "Time and time again when a foul was called on the Weber players, they looked startled and once during the second half seemed to lose heart for a short time, but their ginger soon came back and they went in again, and each time managed to come back and jump to the lead by a point or two. "The entire game was close and each team took turns in leading. Several times during the second half the score was tied and after the first three minutes neither team was more than three points to the good. "The playing of the Weber team was snappy and Clark loomed up in nearly every play. He covered ground so fast that it was hard to distinguish between fair play or progress and his basket throwing was clever. He made two baskets that were refused to stand. ACORN 21 Clark at center had the jump on Howe the majority of the time, but Lund managed to get the ball from the jump the greater number of times. "Watson at guard was in the game for Weber all the time and stopped several sure baskets. Both teams showed good team work, the passes being swift and short. Lund took long shots several times, but failed to score. "Referee Lon Romney was in the game all the time and followed the ball well, but he was too technical at times. Weber seemed to fare badly under such conditions. It is safe to state that the Weber team was the better of the two and with an even break on luck would have won out. The Saints were up in the air at different times and it was hard for them to settle down. "The Weber team took the lead from the start of the game and also at the opening of the second half, but the basket work of Lund from the foul line was the feature of the game. He made only two more baskets than Clark, but he missed half as many, and had Clark been in topnotch condition the score would have been different. Lund's work at the foul line settled his team several times. Lund was clever the entire game, forcing Weber players to foul him several times. "The Weber players finished strong, but were handicapped owing to the game Friday night, while the Saints rested. They never showed a great slack, but could have fought more had they not played the preceding night. They won second place, however." The line-up: Saints: Weber: Gallacher, R. F. R. F., Call Robbins, L. F. L. F., Ingles Howe, C. C, Clark Lund, R. G. R. G., Watson Daw, L. G. L. G., Roberts Lon Romney, referee; Fred Bennion, umpire. Baskets from the field Call, 3; Ingles, 4; Clark, 2; Gallacher, 1; Howe, 4; Lund, 3; Daw, 2. Foul baskets Lund, 19; Clark, 17. Salt Lake Tribune. "You've got the greatest high school basket ball team I have ever seen. I want to congratulate you upon the clean sportsmanlike conduct and great showing of your fellows." Fred Bennion. The last game of the tournament was between Payson and Branch Normal for third place. It was not as interesting as it might have been because Payson had it too much her own way.
