Show We Danced And Danced And Danced Jone Doxey walked right out of a big red heart to become Excelsior Sweetheart Feb. 24. Flanked by four other beauties-Elaine Creer, Chyrrel Olsen, Diane Rhodes, and Faun Wicker-she was chosen by Hollywood's Tyrone Power. The Big "E" Boys spent all day Friday watching Otyokwa decorated, and all Friday night patting themselves on the back for their clever decorations and the large crowds attracted to their dance. If Carma is wearign a dreamy look it's becasue she's Dream Girl for 1950. Chosen at Sharmea and Vikings dance she ruled among the snowlfakes and snowmen. Waltz-happy Weberites danced this one away while Sharmea "due payers" worried whether thre was enough pink in the decorations Alpha Rho's dance featured the Murray Jones orchestra from Salt Lake and presentation ceremonies broadcast over KLO. (Influential Alumni!) The height of Pres. Bill Ridges career came when he bestowed Miss Collegiate of 1950, Arlean Bambrough, with a kiss and a gold watch. Dee Wallace was in Idaho with the basketball team so they gave his Mr. Collegiate watch to Glen McEntire. Dee has been trying to get it back ever since. 18 Who's All Right? The stars are Weber's: front, left to right, Larry Woods, Darrell Tucker, Coach Reed K. Swenson, Asst. Coach Clair Anderson, Glen Ashby, Don Dinsdale. Rear, Dee Wallace, Keith Sewell, Sterling Gardner, Gerald (Jerry) Downs, Lawrence Stone, Don Madsen. Flashing team play has placed the 1950 Weber basketball squad near the top of the game in junior college circles, as demonstrated by the crowns won during February and March against fast opposition. Wildcat players, cannily coached by Reed K. Swenson, made this the greatest court season in Weber college history by taking the Region four tournament against the best ball hawking of Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado, and by winning the northern division of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference. By reason of the Region four win, Weber is representing the intermountain area in the national junior college tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. Facing Boise, Idaho, junior college in the showdown battle, Weber took the final game of the regional tournament by a 55 to 69 score in a contest which featured aggressive ball control and phenomenal marksmanship on the part of the victors. Boise was off balance most of the way. 19 |
