The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show FOR MERCY’S SAKE . . . These valiant volunteers are wasting no time in doing their bit to bring Ogden’s Red Cross Women’s Voluntary Service to the top of the list. In photo No. 1 Mrs. C. R. Reipe is assisting a patient at the hospital, as is Miss Ann Gajewsky in photo No. 2. Both are nurses aid students. Photo No. 3 in circle shows Mrs. William Van Alen knitting a sweater for a soldier. She is chairman of knitting for war production and has knitted 117 sweaters the past year and a half. No. 4, Mrs. Robert J. Spain of the home service department is shown with a soldier. In photo No 5, Mrs. C. P. Parrish (left) and Mrs. F. Maurice Abbott are taking in-structions in canteen service from Miss Wanda Mathews, head dietitian of the Thomas D. Dee Memorial hospital, and Mrs. Richard B. Porter, chairman of the canteen service, and Mrs. Harry F. Irwin, co-chairman of the canteen service, and Mrs. Harry F. Irwin, co-chairman. In photo No. 6 are Mrs. C. I. Canfield, Mrs. Walter S. Biddle and Mrs. Hood A. Meirs, who are officers in the voluntary secretarial force. (Staff photos.) |
