The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

The service strives to coordinate the efforts of organizations and individuals who wish to serve the armed forces on active duty. RED CROSS AIMS ARE EXPLAINED Primary Objective Is to Coordinate Efforts, Official Says Aims and purposes of the Red Cross camp and 'hospital service were explained to Weber county officials and members of the Amer¬ican Red Cross by Mrs. John F. Manning, of the national commit¬tee of the camp and hospital serv¬ice of the American Red Cross Pa¬cific area, at a well attended meet¬ing in the city-county building. The service strives to coordin¬ate, Mrs. Manning told the group, the efforts of organizations and in-dividuals who wish to serve the armed forces on active duty. Various means of providing this service, such as furnishing sun rooms, recreation rooms and sup¬plying recreation chests to hospitals and outposts were described by Mrs. Manning. Needs of Bushnell general hos¬pital at Brigham City, were listed by Miss A. Riggs, a Red Cross field director at this hospital, fol¬lowing Mrs. Manning's general dis¬cussion. Following the brief talks a ques¬tion and answer session was con¬ducted by Mrs. Manning. Mrs. Manning, upon her arrival here was met by Edward Eissen, field director, for this area; Mrs. Leah Greenwell, executive secre¬tary, and Mrs. George L. Abbott, chairman of camp and hospital for Weber county, and was immedi¬ately taken to Hill field on a tour of ins-pection. spent for furniture for three rec¬reation rooms; at the Utah quar¬termaster depot, $308.75 was spent on furnishings for two recreation rooms; and $130.95 was used for supplementary furnishings at the colored USO center on Wall ave¬nue. The following organizations have furnished recreation rooms at Hill field, under direction of the camp and hospital service: Martha Jun¬ior society, American Legion aux¬iliary, Kiwanis club and B'nai B'rith organization. Many Contribute Many individuals have contrib¬uted radios, phonographs and fur¬niture and substantial gifts of money to be used in furnishing rec¬reation rooms. Magazines, games and cards have been collected by the Junior Red Cross, under direc¬tion of Miss Sarah McCracken and members of her committee. They are gathered weekly by the Ogden motor corps and ' delivered to the ( depots. ! There are many rooms still to be furnished and Christmas parties are being planned for the quartermas¬ter depot, Ogden air depot, and the colored soldier camp at Hooper, as well as Bushnell general hospital at Brigham City by the Weber county Amp and hospital commit- ee.
