The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

HOUSEWIVES TO CAREJOR SICK, Home Nursing Course Is Scheduled at Weber College With a large share of the na¬tion's doctors and nurses busy in the armed services, the burden of caring for the sick in case of an emergency will fall on the house¬wives, according to Mrs. Leah P. Greenwell, Red Cross chapter executive secretary. One way to prepare for this situ¬ation, Mrs. Greenwell explained, is to enroll in the free home nursing course to be given by 'the Red Cross at Weber college, beginning this week. The Red Cross organiza-tion, she said, hopes that at least one person from every home will take the course. In Dozen Lessons The course consists of 12 lessons of two hours each, and classes will be organized for mornings, after-noons or evenings, to suit the in¬dividuals concerned. Registration will be held Monday at ten a. m. in room 203 at Weber college, and also at seven-thirty Monday even¬ing. - Committee in charge includes, besides Chairman Joan W. Emmett, Mrs. Roy Thorsensen, vice chair-man; Mrs. Herbert N. Woods, Mrs. Leslie C. West, Dr. L. R. Draper, Mrs. L. H. Overstreet and Glen W. Perrins. Purpose of the course is to help individuals meet their own per¬sonal and home responsibilities for healthful living and to take care of minor illnesses in their own homes. It is essentially a home- makers' course, preparing the in¬dividual to recognize the value of expert medical and nursing care when needed and to supplement such care in the absence of physi¬cian or nurse. Entirely Separate It is not to be confused with the nurse's aide course, nor is it a course in first aid, pointed out Mrs. Emmett, chairman of the committee in charge. "However," she continued, "if women really want to help in the war effort, they would be doing so by caring for the children of women who wish to take this course." Clashes are taught in homelike surroundings and are adapted to the age and needs of the particular group concerned.
