Show 8 up from behind & shouted: “Hey you, Slim! Where in the h-ll do you think you’re going”? I had obeyed orders too well and had led the whole line of about fifty men down that said street clean out of the Quarantine Camp How we got past the sentry, I don’t know, but he sure got the dickens from the Sergeant, as did the men at the mess Hall who were supposed to stop us when we came by. But I’d have been going yet if he hadn’t stopped me, if I had taken them entirely out of the state Well, Mother I’ve written you quite a long letter, but you deserve it. Write me again at the same address, and if I get changed and permanently assigned in the meantime, they’ll forward it from the Casual Camp Post Office. With love from Stan I’m going to write father in a day or so when I’ve learned more of drill. We get squad formation next week. |
