Show 20 THE ACORN ALUMNI The present officers constitute the Alumni Gyumnasium Committee. At the meeting in June the Alumni pledged themselves to an assessment of $10 each toward the gymnasium fund. It is hoped that we will not fall far short of a 100 per cent response to the pleading request of our Alma Mater a gymnasium. President Clyde W. Lindsay, '04 Vice President Marion Belnap, '05 Secretary Rosella Ferrin, '08 Treasurer Henry Anderson, '00 The sympathy of the Alumni as well as that of the H. C. P. Club is extended to Florence Barker Manning, '08, in the sorrow occasioned by the death of Nephi H. Manning. Nephi was for two years associated with the class of '07 and will be remembered as a most congenial and promising student. The many friends of Jennie Groberg Woods, '06, were grieved to hear the news of her death. During her senior year, she was a member of the Acorn staff. Henry Jensen, '06, left February 4 for a mission in England. His Sunday School class presented him with a signet ring as a token of their appreciation. Rexel Bachman, '09, left November 12 for the Swiss-German mission. THE ACORN 21 In the professional colums we are pleased to note the name Dr. G. Emmett Browning, dentist, a former student at Weber; also that Em-mett hasn't forgotten that "it pays to advertise in the Acorn." Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hodgson are at home in San Diego, Cal. Mrs. Hodgson is known on the Alumni roll as Elino Bingham, '07. Merril Nibbey of Salt Lake and Belva Woodmansee, '07, were married during the summer; also Reuben T. Evans of this city and Josephine West, '07. The former are making their home in the capital after a three months' tour of Europe, and the latter are now in Germany, where Mr. Evans is studying forestry. William F. Driver, '08, has unexpectedly become a Frenchman. He is laboring in Nimes, France. We regret that the circulation of our paper does not make possible our use of that as a means of communication between Alumni members. The Acorn should be in the home of every Alumnus. "Mother, may I got out to wheel?" "Yes, my darling daughter. I suppose, of course, you won't wear skirts, Although I think you oughter." IT LOOKED BAD. Captain (coldly) "I hear you stood near the head of your class last month ?" Forward (faintly) "Yes." Captain "Oh, I don't say but what you are all right as yet, but it looks bad; it looks as if you were neglecting your training." Ex, Professor "Why do you always get behind in your courses ?" Student "So I can pursue them." |
