Show BASKETBALL SCENE An all Coach star Floyd cast capably directed by Slater and managed by Rich- suc- ard Seigle and Ronald Hopfenbeck, ceded in putting on smash eight hits in league play during the basketball season— their only turkeys coming while performing on the Bear River stage. These lads were just as shining at practice after school and dress rehearsals in pre-league games (putting on performances to equal their Opening Night) as they were on their BIG NIGHTS. Although we gracefully relinquished the Oscar we have held for two years running to Bear River in Region One play, we still received an academy award in the form of second place. Individual awards for good sportsmanship, and brilliant playing went to every member of the team, again making Weber High School a name to reckon with on the hardwood Action Shot at Weber and Ogden Game The big performance for Weber’s team and student body was the State Tournment play. The coach, team, and student body, all deserved laurels for a splendid showing. The first night found the Warriors victorious. They fought hard, worked together, and truly deserved winning over Logan. The second day of play found the sting of the Davis Darts just a little too much and the Warriors suffered their first loss in tournament play. However, the team made an excellent showing the third and last day of play and again the Warriors were victorious defeating a strong Jordan team. When the awards were given, Weber came out third, the climax of a successful run of basketball. | Especially noteworthy were the honors bestowed on individual players. Darrel Tucker received “All-State” on every team picked, and broke the record on the number of points made in one game. Don Dinsdale placed on the Deseret News, and Tribune’s second team and Robert Lundquist received “All-State” in a 10 man team selected by the StandardExaminer, but to the student body each and every player deserved the top laurels of “All-State.” 104 Tournament Action courts. |
