Fruit and Vegetable Crop Production. Location of fruit plantings, varieties, propagation, pruning, soil management, and the culture of vegetable crops. Three quarter hours. Spring. Monk 54. Plant Propagation. A program designed to help the home owner or farmer in propagating flowers, trees or shrubs to be used around the home, on farm or in the garden. Two to four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Monk 55. Floriculture. A course designed to aid those interested in culture, arrangement and marketing of flowers. Two to five quarter hours. Summer. Monk 57. Insect Control. A program to aid farmers and home owners in the control of insect pests of the home, garden, farm, or livestock. Three quarter hours. Summer. Young 58. Weed Control. A program planned to aid the farmers or home owner in the control of weeds on the farm or in the garden. The use and methods of application of new weedicides will be discussed. Three quarter hours. Spring, Summer. Monk 59. Practical Field Crop Production. Principles of how to produce crops such as beans, sugar beets, corn and potatoes. Two lectures and one laboratory period a week. Three quarter hours. Spring. Monk 85 61. Farm and Garden Soils. A course designed to aid the gardener and farmer in choosing and managing soils. Two to five quarter hours. Winter. Monk 64. Practical Irrigation. A program planned to aid the farmer, gardener and horticulturist with irrigation problems. Methods of water application for orchards, gardens and farms will be discussed. Three to five quarter hours. Autumn, Spring. Monk 65. Drainage Problems. Improvement of poorly drained soils by proper planned drains and soil treatments. Three to five quarter hours. Summer. Monk 67. Soil Management and Fertilizer Use. A program designed to aid the farmer in using fertilizers on the farm. Types of fertilizers to be purchased and methods of fertilizer application will be emphasized. Three to five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Monk 68. Pasture Management. Selection of land and determining mixture best adapted to the various types of soil and moisture conditions; methods of establishing pasture, rotating with other crops, methods of grazing, fencing, fertilizing and other management problems. Two quarter hours. Spring. Taft 71. Practical Livestock Feeding. A course to aid livestock farmers in the choice and use of feeds and in the modern methods of feeding livestock. Three to five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Monk 72. Beef Production. A study of the breeds and market classes of beef cattle. The selection of feeder and fat cattle. Management practices in purchasing and fattening cattle for market. Marketing of home grown crops through beef cattle. Study of cattle feeding operations. Two to five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 73. Practical Livestock Breeding and Selection. A study of principles of breeding and selection of farm animals. Two quarter hours. Spring. Staff 75. Practical Poultry Management. A program designed to aid the farmers in poultry breeding, feeding, sanitation and culling of their flocks. Two to four quarter hours. Autumn. Staff 76. Animal Hygiene. A program designed to aid all people interested in livestock, in the prevention and control of infectious diseases, and in the care and treatment of wounds and injuries of all types of livestock, including poultry. Two to five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Staff 77. Practical Dairy Herd Management. A program designed to aid farmers in the use of dairy equipment and in the general practices in the feeding and management of a dairy herd. Two to four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Staff |
