Show Thanks, Biff, for taking stand To the editor, Mormon - students I am outraged by statement made by John Kroger, newly ap- pointed to the presidential cabinet, that Biff Whiting's recent challenge of the student senate elections at WSU are without the support of the student body and that they give the university a bad image. This is utter nonsense and re- flects an "inbred" point of view of the entrenched power structure, that, of course, don't want to see any changes. WSU is a campus with a variety of ideas and opinions, notjust white and dominantly ideas. There are many like myself who are pleased with Biff Whiting and all he's done to attack student apathy and give students a feeling that maybe something CAN BE DONE if some aggressive hell raisers lead the charge. Without Quixotic rolemodels like Whiting, students at WSU become resigned to feeling that their ideas cannot be expressed effectively and eloquently and will be overwhelmed by the status quo. Hooray, Biff Whiting! Thanks for taking a stand and please don't give up. As a final note, I want to en- courage other students who, like _ me, want to see the election process cleaned up and new elections held to voice their opinion so that THE COMMUNITY can see that at Weber State University we don't just PLAY AT POLITICS, we act as if we are in the REAL WORLD. After all, our university experience is a prepatory stage for the rest of our lives. Involvement to- day means taking charge of our lives and will translate into action and involvement in our futures. Derek Lords WSU Student Writer says majority of senate candidates _ dont feel wronged by election confusion To the editor, Like a bad bowl of chili, Biff has done it again. It seems that he just keeps coming up at all the wrong times. For those of you who have not heard, Mr. Whiting, a man looking for a cause, found a bylaw that allowed him to petition the ASWSU Supreme Court to de- clare seven of the senate positions null and void. This assumption is based on the fact that there were some ‘specifically wronged" by the election process. Succeeding in his endeavor, he has managed to drag all of us who ran earlier this quarter for senate positions into his personal crusade for "justice." I guess it must be beside the point that he did not even contact most of those involved, both the winners and the losers, even though he supposedly petitioned because “the aforesaid election (was)asham and cries out for redress." (Please note that most of us were not of his opinion). Moreover, out of all of the senate candidates, only two of the whole group felt that they had been "specifically wronged." (Biff, surprisingly enough, being one of tion of candidates would give student moral "a shot in the butt." However, where he comes up with. this deduction still eludes me. Biff, buddy, for lack of a better cliche, quit beating a dead horse. © Granted, it would have been nice to have been elected to an office (having run for natural science senator myself); however, most of us have managed to move on with our lives without raising one magnificent _stink about it. So Biff, while we all - appreciate your efforts, keep the change. them). Mr. Whiting feels that a re-elec- scott Jensen, WSU Student | |
