MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY October 2005 The first City Council Meeting held in the new municipal building was held on October 20, 2005. Mayor Keith Butler expressed his satisfaction with and appreciation for the new building. The city is completely out of the old offices. We have received a flag pole from Weber County which was used for the Olympics in 2002. Steve Mecham has placed a large rock in front of the new building--the first step in landscaping? President Ilium thanked the Mayor and staff for a job well done with the move. Mayor Butler, in turn, thanked all the staff for their time and effort during the move. He also thanked Rich Adam, John Burt, and other volunteers who helped with the move. He feels that there as been a lot of sacrifice made by many over the years since our incorporation. Delbert Hodson feels it is great to have the city hall now located in our city and not in Ogden. Already a wedding and some meetings have been held in the new building. An Open House is scheduled for November 16, 2005, beginning at 6:00 p.m. for the new City Office and Senior Center. Mayor Butler received a letter from Keith Heaton of the Utah State Department of Community and Culture commending Bill Morris on the organization and professionalism he exhibited in administering the CDBG grant for the building of the Senior Center. The municipal election to be held in November will have three positions open for voting. These are: Mayor: Keith Butler, (incumbent) and Gerald Bischoff. Council East: Delbert Hodson (incumbent) and Kent Meyerhoffer. Council West: Kim Slater (incumbent and unopposed). The Weber Fire District will hold a bond election in conjunction with this election. A business license for Kings HVAC, 619 North 2000 West, for mechanical business was approved by the council. Chief Dave Austin of the Weber Fire District spoke regarding the bond election for a new fire station, indicating there has been a lot of growth in the communities. He explained that if the bond is passed, five fire stations will be replaced and repositioned to improve emergency response times to meet safety needs for existing and expanding population. Impact fees have been collected which will go toward these new stations. He further explained that the current fire station now in use, is constructed with cement walls and ceiling. They have been advised this building will not hold up in an earthquake. Mr. Blaine Holmes explained the proposed tax levy which will be imposed on residents if the bond is passed. The planning commission held a public hearing on a proposal requested by IFA, to amend the zoning map on a 12 acre property located at 1069 East 1200 South from A-1 to C-2P, and unanimously recommended approval of the zoning change, based upon the concept. The developer proposed to change the entire property to C-2P for a feed store and retail businesses. Mr. Morris said all improvements would be installed at the beginning of the project. It is not known what businesses will come in at this time. The developer will be required to bring a site plan to the city that will meet all the requirements which are needed for the project. Mr. Slater inquired if it was an incentive to the business to locate in our city as there is no property tax. Mr. Morris advised that he does not know if the company is aware of the tax situation or not. The council approved the ordinance. Kim Slater reported that there have been two cases of West Nile in the county, one of which was a horse. The human involved was a transient who brought the virus with him. Bits and Pieces Jackson Seven Jorgensen, son of Jared and Britteny Jorgensen, was born on October 12, 2005. Vernal Wardell celebrated his 90th birthday, October 17, with family members during the week of his birthday. Eric Trent Gibby died October 15, 2005, at the age of 23.
