Show EDWARD MARRIOTT Written by MADELEINE MARRIOTT HARROP (his niece) My father Charles had an older brother Edward Marriott. Uncle Edward was thin and slightly taller than my father. He was a mild-speaking, and pleasant person. We looked forward to his visits. He had dark, wavy hair. He wore a mustache all of his life and was a very good-looking man. He owned a team of horses and was skilled in digging foundations for some of the leading buildings in Ogdenone of which was the Ogden Union Station Depot. He left work in Ogden in hope of bettering himself. He moved to the Idaho-Montana region where he was in much demand and made excellent wages. One time when he was visiting, he sat in our large, roomy kitchen with his legs crossed and swinging one leg. He called my sister and I to his side and opened a long pouch or money bag. Our eyes opened wide as we looked into his purse. There were quarters fifty-cent pieces, dimes, and nickels. He reached in and brought out two, big silver dollars. He gave one to my sister and one to me. This is an early recollection of him that we will always remember. After he worked up in the Northwest for many years, he returned to Ogden where he urged his daughter to come to live. His sister, Aunt Ida Marriott Creamer, invited them to live with her and her husband and the remaining single children she still had at home. They were welcomed and treated as members of their family. His daughter Edna found work in Ogden and lived with Aunt Ida until she married. His son was by his first wife, Martha Wayment. His name was Arthur and Edward's only daughter, Edna, was by a second wife, Lilly Merrill, whom he had met in the Northwest. They eventually divorced. Edward lived at the home of his sister Ida until he passed away. |
