Show weeks when he was released, and Thomas H. Young was engaged to take his place. A report of the school published in "The Standard", December 2, 1891, stated that there were four teachers, and that another was to be engaged soon. This seems to have reference to the contemplated change of William H. Jones and Thomas H. Young. At the close of this year, Louis F. Moench resigned on account of poor health. For the year 1892-93, Emil B. Isgreen was Principal; William H. Jones, A. N. Tollestrup, and Karl Anderson, Teachers; Moroni D. Ferrin, Custodian; Mrs. Ella Jones, Librarian; and Alice Findlay, Secretary. During the year 1893-94, Dr. George F. Phillips was Principal. The faculty was listed as follows: Hon. Joseph Stanford, William H. Jones, Mrs. Marian T. Burton, and A. F. O. Nielson. Although not listed as a teacher, Squire Coop attended several faculty meetings and spoke in behalf of the music department. Mercy Burton taught in the primary department beginning January 3, 1894. Bishop Thomas J. Stevens taught theology beginning in January. He seemed to have taken the place of Joseph Stanford. A Miss Hayes was mentioned in the minutes of February 12, 1895, as a new teacher in the primary department. We find no further mention of her. The years 1889 to 1894 were a period of struggle for the Weber Stake Academy. Louis F. Moench returned to the school as Principal in the fall of 1894, and served in that capacity until the summer of 1902. This was a period of growth and development. Some details are given in the next two chapters. The teachers who worked with Professor Moench during this period are listed in Figure 1. David O. McKay was Principal of the Weber Stake Academy from 1902 |
