Show rin Back row to front: Shanna Sandall, Cynthia Allen, Rosanne Clark, Girls Srate 1988 was held at Southern Urah Srare College in Cedar Ciry. We were a group of 390 girls from across the entire state of Urah. We were divided into 14 cities and were either Federalists or Nationalists. Everyone from the same school was separated so rhat we were all forced fo make new friends. This turned our to be a great advan- tage because each city grew together like a family, and by the end of the week we all felr as though we had known each other forever. We ran for several different political offices at a city, county, or state level. We learned the basic principles of politics, and we definitely learned the “‘p” word, Parliamentary Procedure. There were many rules fo keep, and rwo of the hardest were No gum and men. It wasn't long before both of these rules were broken! Girls State will be one of the most memorable times of high school. We learned so much, made life-long friends, and most of all, gained a grear amount of pride and respect for our country and flag. We would especially like to thank the American Legion Auxiliary for the chance to go and experience something thar we'll never forger. -Shanna Sandall Jeannie Humphreys, Susie Jorgensen, Melanie Green Girls State was a definite experience! | think thar | learned more about government in one week down at SUSC than all my years of school rogerther. The firsr rwo days are really rough because you're nor sure what is going on or why you're there or what you can do to make your roommate quit snoring. Your days go from 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. (Everyone catches sleep in between meetings.) It’s all worth it! By the time the week is over, you really feel like you've accomplished something and you've had a lor of fun! Probably the funnesr thing was trying fo figure our creative ways fo talk fo boys and to ger off campus withour being caught! The thing | loved most about Girls Srare, was the grear friends that | made. We were down ar Cedar Ciry with 600 of the nearest girls in rhe stare-ir’s very easy to make friends. | think Girls Srare was one of the grearesr things | ever did and | would do it again it | had the chance! -Jeannie Humphreys (@,3 |
