It is recommended that students who present for entrance less than the equivalent of twenty-five quarter hours in one foreign language puruse such language until they have earned a minimum of twenty-five quarter hours. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Music MUSIC 1. Solfeggio. Includes a study of the rudiments of sight-singing, notation, rhythm, intervals, and chords. Two quarter hours. (Not given 1935-36.) MUSIC 2. Solfeggio and Public School Music. The study of the fundamentals of music. Special emphasis is placed upon methods of teaching music. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 3. Solfeggio (Advanced). A course devoted to special work in ear training. Two quarters. Parry. MUSIC 4. History or Music (Ancient). Has to do with the origin of music and treats the development of music as an art from its beginning to 1600. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 5. History of Music (Classical). The development of music from 1600 to 1800. Special attention is given Handel, Bach, Hayden, Mozart, and Beethoven. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 0. History of Music (Romantic and Modern). The development of music from 1800 to the present time. Special attention is given Wagner, Verdi, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Strauss, Debussy and Stravinsky. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 7. Appreciation. An intensive and detailed study of music forms. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 8. Appreciation (Opera). Devoted to a technical consideration and careful analysis of several great operas. Two quarter hours. Parry. WEBER COLLEGE 41 MUSIC 9. Appreciation. (Symphony). Consists of a detailed study of several great symphonies, with special attention given to form, design, and instrumentation. Two quarter hours. Parry. MUSIC 10. Elementary Harmony. A course devoted to the study of chord construction. Open only to students of ability and training. Prerequisite: Solfeggio or its equivalent, and the ability to read music in soprano and bass clefs. Three quarter hours. (No credit given for less than three quarters' work.) Parry. MUSIC 11. Elementary Harmony. A continuation of Music 10. Has to do with inversion and dominant harmony. Prerequisite: Music 10. Three quarter hours. (No credit given for less than three quarters' work.) Parry. MUSIC 12. Elementary Harmony. A continuation of Music 11. Devoted to a study of dominant and leading tone sevenths and modulation. Prerequisite: Music 11. Three quarter hours. (No credit given for less than three quarters' work.) Parry. MUSIC 16. Instrumental Arrangement. A study of string quartet, vocal trio and quartet, and orchestral and band arrangement. Two quarter hours. (Not given 1935-36.) Parry. MUSIC 20. Girls' Glee Club. Training in an organization that functions prominently in major school activities. Prerequisite: A voice examination. One quarter hour. Parry. MUSIC 21. Male Chorus. Training in an organization created to give practical service in school activities. Prerequisite: A voice examination. One quarter hour. Parry. MUSIC 22. Vocal Combinations. Solos, duets, trios, quartets, etc., are carefully selected and developed, and are featured frequently throughout the year. Prerequisite: A voice examination. One quarter hour. Parry. MUSIC 30. Band. Provides study of band organization and training in band instrumentation. Students of this course are required to play at all public appearances of the band. One quarter hour. Parry. MUSIC 31.
