Show tubes each. Two of these furnaces were built in November 1953, the remaining six in the spring of 1954. Utah also built an extension to the existing Dry, Pack and Store House with the necessary changes and additions to the electrical, water, steam and air services. The installation of a complete new Tray Dryer system. We converted existing Drying System to a G-Co Drying System and installed weighing and recording mechanism on two overhead charging cranes. We also installed a new 50 ton truck weighing scales. We built an addition to, and altered the existing acid unloading and storage system. We built a new K. B. Installation; this included a new furnace building, new K. B. furnaces, new washing system, cooling tower, electrical work, underground water lines, roadways, outside piping, sawdust handling facilities, site grading and acid handling. We also built a new supervisors' office, and did many small jobs such as replacing the north end of a power house and re-routing existing piping and electrical installations. Also the handling of heavy equipment with our crane winch truck and tractor. The work in the field was completed on July 30, 1954. No further work was authorized and this was due to the following reasons: In February of 1954 Darco found that by changing the slope of the tubes in their furnaces, they could increase their yield from 35 lbs. per hour to 50 lbs. per hour; this coupled with the new batteries being installed gave them adequate production. They also found that their present washing system was capable of handling this increase. Darco's sales had dropped considerably below the 1953 level and they were having to store their finished product. In addition, they found that necessary changes to be made in the coming year could be done more economically by their own forces. Utah had a 60% interest in this venture.
