Utah accomplished this by using collapsible, self-supporting forms and scaffolding that did not have to be removed for traffic. Other equipment was mounted on railway trucks for high mobility. 9 - Korean Railway The contract was between Utah Construction & Mining Co. and the United States of America and it was dated June 16, 1954. It was a fee type contract and amounted to about $150, 000. The project was to furnish professional advisory services required for two extensions of the Korean National Railway and was expected to last about fifteen months. The fee covered all contractor's costs, out-of-pocket expenses and profit. The profit was divided between Utah 70% and Far East Metals 30%. 10- Armenia Highway The work on Colombia's highway system consisted of relocation, widening, some pavement, and general improvement of 343 miles of roads, providing access to the extremely rugged terrain west of Bogota. In addition to the construction, the completed portions of the road had to be maintained in good condition and native crews trained to carry on after completion of the contract. Our original contract, signed in 1951, called for some $10,600,000 worth of work. An extension was awarded early in 1954 to continue work through 1956 in the amount of $8,200,000, an indication of the complete satisfaction of the Ministry of Public Works. 11 - Extension of Zinc Oxide Plant Extension of a zinc oxide plant in Texas for the American Smelting and Refining Company in the amount of $3,146,000. The estimated fee on this was $198, 635. 12 - Zinc Plant and Facilities in Tennessee for the New Jersey Zinc Company in the amount of $2,438,000. 13 - Stockton Elevator This huge grain terminal erected by Utah for Stockton Elevators, Inc. included a Head House 250 ft. tall, 18 silos, and intermediate storage compartments forming a structure 120 ft. tall, 51'2" wide and 248'6" long. Situated in the heart of California's primary grain pro- ducing area, the terminal has storage capacity for 2,500,000 bushels of grain. It included facilities for receiving grain from truck, rail |
