Show Field Engineering Inspection Section - This section consisted of specialized engineers skilled in electrical, mechanical, piping and general civil engineering construction performing overall assistance in the installation of specialized work and equipment, including inspection and the testing of completed work and were responsible for checking that all engineering specifications and requirements were being satisfied by the construction forces. Home Office Supervisory Coordination - Periodic and special project visits were made by executive engineers and officers of the home office to provide overall company policy coordination and to assist and insure the successful planning, execution and direction of the project program. 16 - Delayed Coking Plant The construction of a Delayed Coking Plant at Grand Junction, Colorado, for the American Gilsonite Company. The contract amounted to $2, 856, 100 and was a guaranteed maximum cost plus a fixed fee type. Foster Wheeler Corporation sponsored the project and Utah had the other 50%. 17 - Plant Expansion in Texas for the Darco Corporation Atlas Powder Company in the amount of $3,000,000. 18 - Automotive Plant in Australia for the General Motors-Holdens Ltd. in the amount of $140,000. 19 - Site Preparation For British Nylon Spinners (Australia) Pty. Ltd. in Bayswater, Victoria. Project called for the preparation of the actual building site and its surroundings, the building of foundations for machines, roadworks and drainage within the area, and the provision of installations for water supply. Because of the heavy nature of the spinning machines, the setting of solid foundations for machines was of special importance, and some 661 prestressed concrete piles were driven to carry the load, using a heavy pile hammer specially imported for the job. The cost was $800,000. 20 - Expansion of Texada Mines, Ltd. Subsequent to the original design and construction by Utah of the 2500 tons per day crushing and magnetic separation dry concentrating plant on Texada Island, B. C., development of the ore body resulted in the need of further beneficiation, and the services of Utah Construction Company's team of engineers were again called upon. |
