Show Main Line Railroad Design - The complete location of the Main Line Railroad was carried out by a separate Railroad Engineering Section under the Construction Engineering Division. Design of all structures was by the Office Engineering Section. A total of 225 location and railroad design drawings were required including drawings for the structures. Thirty Bed Hospital - Administration Building and Nurses Quarters These facilities were designed by an independent architect. This design had been coordinated by the Construction Engineering Division. A total of 42 drawings were required. Field engineering and inspection of construction subcontractors' activities were also handled by the Construction Engineering Division. Total Required Drawings The grand total estimated drawings for the project, exclusive of sketches, clarification drawings and revisions was 1817. Construction Engineering Division- This Division was divided into four sections consisting of a Plant Field Engineering Section, Railroad Field Engineering Section, Office Engineering Section and a Field Engineering Inspection Section. Plant Field Engineering Section - This Section, under the supervision of a Chief Field Engineer and an Assistant, was divided into three areas, each having an Area Engineer who worked directly under the Area Superintendent. The Area Engineer was responsible for the interpretation of drawings and specifications, assisting the Area Superintendent in the preparation of detailed schedules and maintaining current and accurate status of materials through contact with the Materials Control Subsection. He was also responsible for accurate reporting of quantities of work performed and assisting the Cost Control Sub-section in supervising the proper cost coding of the work performed. Railroad Field Engineering Section - In addition, the Railroad Field Engineering Section was provided engineering supervision for the construction of both railroads and, in general, was fulfilling the functions as outlined above for Area Engineers on a somewhat larger scale. This section was also assisting the Owner in the obtaining of rights-of-way and maintaining liaison with property holders along the route of the railroad. |
