Show An office sub-section consisting of four engineers and a clerk were responsible for the location drawings and computations required for the work. Five field parties under the direction of two Chiefs of Party, conducted all surveys, both for location and construction. The Railroad Engineering Section was under the overall supervision of a Chief Railroad Engineer and an assistant. Office Engineering Section - This section, under the direction of a Chief Office Engineer, wag responsible for the phases of design previously mentioned in connection with the design of the railroads and was further responsible for such check of field details and field design, as job conditions might require. Unusually difficult machinery or structural erection or forms of unusual complexity were typical of the work required in this connection. This section prepared all cost estimates and all requisitions for construction materials, other than engineered or process equipment, under the supervision of a Chief Estimator. Also under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, a Cost Control Sub-Section, maintaining close cooperation with the Cost Accounting Sub-Section of the Administrative Division, prepared and maintained current engineering costs of all project work for the assistance of the Project Manager and the General Superintendent in maintaining cost control of the Project. A material control was established under a Material Control Engineer to insure collection and distribution to the field of latest status of materials and material deliveries-to enable field scheduling to meet probable delivery dates of all job materials. A coordinated effort was maintained with the Purchasing Department Expediting Section which maintained a constant effort to get items on the job prior to installation dates. The Office Engineer Section advised on job progress through progress reports covering general and detailed items of construction and prepared daily, weekly and monthly reports of progress for appropriate distribution. It also prepared job forecasts including general and detailed construction schedules and correlated and published daily, weekly and other periodic job schedules as prepared in the field by the Area Superintendents and Field Engineers. General supervision of all Office Engineering functions including clerical, stenographic and drafting were a responsibility of the - Office Engineer. |
