Show Bingham Railroad Haulage Tunnel: In the hills surrounding the open pit copper mine in Bingham Canyon is a network of haulage tunnels, shafts, mining drifts, etc. , for the extraction of minerals other than the copper ore. This contract consisted of driving tunnels, raising and sinking shafts, installing additional supports in and enlarging existing tunnels and drifts, laying track, constructing and lining underground machinery and control rooms, and furnishing and installing airlines, electric power transmission lines and drainage facilities. Located near Lark, Utah, this project amounted to $9,123,000. The owner of this project was the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company. Davis Dam Power House: In the reinforced concrete power house building constructed by Utah in connection with Davis Dam on the Colorado River, are five 45,000-TVA, vertical shaft generators for a total capacity of 225,000 KVA, a 62,200 horse power turbine for each generator, and seven cranes, including a 325-ton gantry crane. Utah also constructed the necessary penstocks and gates . Garfield Refinery Power Plant: Utah Construction Company installed this modern steam turbine generation plant as an integral part of its over-all contract with Kennecott Copper Corporation for construction of the huge electrolytic copper refinery at Garfield, Utah. Soap Lake Siphon: Just under 2-1/2 miles in length, this siphon consists of 4,648 feet of concrete pipe, 25 feet in inside diameter, and 8,236 feet of steel-lined concrete pipe with an inside diameter of 22'-4", plus gravel trap and inlet and outlet transition structures. It carries the water of West Canal around Soap Lake, Washington, as part of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation Columbia River Basin Development. This project was completed in 1951 for $7,756,000 by the Utah Construction Company and Winston Brothers Company in joint venture. Track rearrangements in Utah for the Union Pacific Railroad Company in the amount of $40,000. Ballasting in Utah for the Union Pacific Railroad Company in the amount of $500,000. Railroad Embankment in Utah for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in the amount of $3,000. Railroad rehabilitation in California for the U. S. Corps of Engineers in the amount of $624,000. Rail and Highway Relocation - McNary Dam: Construction of McNary Dam on the Columbia River made necessary the relocation of eleven miles each of highway and Union Pacific trackage to an elevation above the west of the dam.
