Show Homestake-Sapin Partners - Uranium Mill - Grants, New Mexico Design work began on this 1500 ton capacity plant in March of 1957, field construction in September of the same year. In July 1958, after less than one year of elapsed time, this plant went successfully on line producing design capacity of concentrate product. Canadian Potash Project - Esterhazy, Saskatchewan The International Minerals and Chemical Corporation (Canada) Ltd. project incorporated design and construction of mine plant, mine shaft, and a 1200 ton per day potash refinery. Work continued during 1958 on schedule for a 1960 complete date. Korea Tungsten Mining Company - Sang Dong - Korea A synthetic scheelite plant designed to produce high-grade concen- trate from low-grade middlings was nearing completion in 1958. Utah was providing engineers and construction personnel for technical assistance during construction and initial operation of the plant. Supporting Utah's operating interests, design work was completed on the initial phase of the San Nicolas Project for iron ore beneficiation, Marcona Mining Company, Peru, South America. A 200-ton per day gravity and magnetic plant was designed to upgrade iron ore fines at San Juan, Peru, also for the Marcona Mining Company. Engineering studies and estimates were also developed for a possible expansion to the Lucky Mc Uranium Mill in Wyoming. Dredging Activities Utah Dredging Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary formed in 1955, was developed to undertake dredging and land reclamation operations for Utah's extensive land development projects and for public and private clients. (This company has since been merged back into the parent company, Utah Construction and Mining Company.) The 30-inch self-powered hydraulic dredge "Alameda" was completed and placed into operation at the close of the year. One of the most significant and modern tools in the dredging industry, the "Alameda" began its shakedown operations by pumping additional yardage to extend the runways at the Oakland International Airport. |
