Description The Kitchen Artifact category of the Harrisville Virtual History Museum contains appliances and utensils for food preparation.
Biographical/Historical Note This pickle crock is believed to have brought to Harrisville by Utah pioneers. It was passed down to Esther Mary Taylor Chugg (1891-1984). Crocks like this were used to make pickles by placing washed cucumbers in a salt brine for the time specified by the recipe (sometimes as longer than two weeks). A weight was used in the crock to hold the cucumbers down so they would be completely covered with the brine.
