His parents were Peter John Roberts born at Thanasa, Flintshire, North Wales and Ann Pool of Newmarket, North Wales . In 1848, when Peter was 18 he married Harriet Jones. Peter and Harriet had two children, a son and a daughter. Ann the daughter was born in 1849 but lived just a short time and died an infant. John, their son was born the next year, May 29 , 1850. John mar r ied Persis McKee on D ecember 24, 1878. He died in 194 7 at 97 years . Peter's wife Harriet died in 1859 in Eng land, 1 1 years after their marriage. John was just 9 years old at that time. In 1860, Peter married Phoebe Ann Richardson who was born November 26 , 1842 , at H owli sh Counden, Durham Co., Engl and. She was the daughter of Peter Richardson and Jane Warmough. Their infant daughter was born in 1861 and they named her Jane, but she died an infant. Mary Ann, another daughter was born September 15, 1862 in Northshields, Durham, Engl and. Mary Ann is my Grandmother. Mary Ann married Willard Col e. It was about this time that they met the E l ders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, accepted their message and were baptized. Other members of the Church were coming to Utah and they joined with them for the long journey from Eng l and to Utah. Phoebe's parents, Peter Richardson and Jane Warmough R i chardson, came with them as they had also joined the Church. It was a most difficult journey for them but they did very well. Peter and Jane Richardson were baptized November 15, 1853 . e • • -2 - They sailed to America on the ship General McCl e llan, then made their way to Nebraska where they began the l ong trek acro s s the plains in the Joseph S . Rawlings Company, a Church train of oxen drawn wagons consisting of about 400 emigrating Saints . They l eft Wyoming, Nebr aska, Jul y 1864. The wagon train arrived i n Gr eat S ;;i,lt Lake on September 29, 1864. The foll owing was taken from the Mill. Star 26:539, Des. News Vol. 13, 369 Journal History Sept 12, 20 : October 5, 1864. Captain Joseph S. Rawlin' s Company Captain Jos. S. Rawlins' Church train of ox - drawn wagons and consisting of a large company (around 400) of emigrating Saints, left Wyoming, Nebraska, July 1864. Most of these Saints had crossed the Atlantic in the ship Gen. McClellan. From a telegram sent to Pres. Br igham Young from the Sweetwater Bridge under date Sept 1st it was l earned that the train was in fine condition, traveling all right and a ll doi ng well. From another telegram sent from the Little Sandy Sept 9th, it was learned that the train was still in good condition, company well and cattle travel ing well. The company arrived in Salt Lake City, September 29, 1864. Soon after they arrive d, Peter was born in 1864 but died shortly after. Nicholas was born Christmas Eve 1865 in Coal vi lle, where they were instructed to settl e . Later they moved to Kamas, Utah. Nicholas married Annie Mortison on November 3, 1892. On May 27, 1901, Peter and Phoebe Roberts and her parents , Peter R i chard-son and Jane Warmouth Richardson, received their Patriarchal Blessings . Peter Roberts was blessed that he woul d be protected from accidents and his life -3- e would be preserved for a wise purpose. He would live until he fulfilled his mission and would come forth in the morning of the first resurection. • • What spiritual messages they are. We have the privileg e of having them in our possession. They were discovered in the Historical Library in Salt Lake and as we are direct decendents were able to obtain them. A daughter, Ann, was born to Peter and Phoebe about 1869 but no definite date is known. Phoebe Harriet was born February 1870 and died as an infant. It is interest-ing to note that she was named for her mother and Peter's fir st wife, Harriet. Also, that Peter and Harriet had a daughter Ann who died as an infant as did Phoebe and Peter. Peter's wife, Phoebe, died March 1, 1870, soon after the baby Phoebe Harriet was born. It was about this time that they moved from Coalville to Kamas, Utah, then later to Goshen, Utah. Many Roberts' descendants still reside in Goshen. Just one month after Phoebe's death, April 15, 1870, Peter married his third wife, Sara Price Jones, a daughter of Bishop Price in Goshen. She was born in England. On April 15, 1870, they were married and later they had a daughter, Sara. No date for her birth is known. Peter and his second and third wife were active in the Church. Peter was a High Priest in the Nebo Stake for many years and was one of the first High Priests in the Nebo Stake and he served faithfully. Peter I s picture and an article about him is in the book, Early Prominent Men of Utah, 1864. He was also a Patriarch. He is mentioned many times in the Goshen Utah History book and e • • -4- some of his talks as High Councilman are mentioned there. Peter Roberts had beautiful blue eyes that penetrated when they looked at you. He was left handed. He enjoyed farming. It was interesting talking about him with his Grandson, Henry Roberts (son of Nicholas), in Goshen in 1977. Henry was in his 801 s. Peter had a total of 9 children. Three lived to be adults - - John, Mary Ann and Nicholas. Six died as children or infants -- Ann, Jane, Peter, Ann, Phoebe Harriet, Sara. Peter Roberts died April 4, 1913 in Goshen, Utah, and is buried in the cemetery there. His wife, Sara, is buried beside him.
