Show 30 The Acorn ATHLETICS Our team received a royal reception from the Apollos at American Fork December 27, 1907. At the close of the first half the score showed that our boys had been out classed. But during the second half they played harder and made more points than the American Fork team but it was too late. When time was up the score stood twenty seven to twenty one in the Apollo's favor. AT LAST A REAL VICTORY On January 10, 1908, there was a large crowd of enthusiastic students present to help the team beat the Apollos. From the very first of the game, success seemed to be ours and although the boys had to work hard for every basket they made, they succeeded in making some excellent field throws. At the end of the first half they were several points ahead and remained so throughout the entire game. The cheers that arose from the students at the close of the game showed that there is still some enthusiasm in the Student Body. Last Thursday the Apollo's came. "We're sure," they said, we'll win the game. We need not practice any more, Our points will be the highest score." Our boys went trembling to the field But worked still harder, wouldn't yield, With work they rose like bread of leaven And scored their thirty four to seven. The Acorn 31 EXCHANGE The A corn has received the following good exchanges this month: "The Shamokin High School Review," (Shomokin Pa,) "The High School Echo," (Nashville, Tenn.) "The Dragon," (Greenfield Ohio.) and "The Chronicle," (Salt Lake City.) "Oracle," (Bangor, Me.) Your cuts are few "and far between." We are very pleased to receive "The Bowen Blade," (Nashville, Tenn.) You give some excellent criticisms in your exchange columns. The story entitled, "The Change in Old Bliss" shows more thought and real ability than many of the ordinary sort often published in school papers. "Star of the Gulf," rustle around and see if you can't find an artist somewhere in your school, you evidently need him badly for we do not find a single cut in the whole paper. We would also suggest that each department begin at the top of a page. The Christmas number of the "Classicum" is one of the best issues the school have sent out. "Spice" is still one of our best exchanges. The writer of the poem "Christmas" in "The White and Blue," should be commended. The material in "Red and Black" is interesting and spicy; but why have your adds mixed up with your other material? "Cadet," We are glad to receive you as a new exchange and wish you success. The stories entitled "Mosiah's Christmas" and "Olive Russels," are interesting in "The Crimson." Have you received no exchanges |
