Show 10 THE ACORN Our band played two selections for us in devotional exercises, February 26, 1909. The boys seem to be improving: in their work, and we hope they will play for us oftener. The choir is progressing-, and we certainly appreciate the music it renders for us each morning: in devotional exercises. A number of new selections have been learned and the "cantata" for the spring- concert is well under way. We hope that no members will in the future forget that their places in the morning are on the choir stand. ATHLETICS Our game with the Deaf school, played at their gymnasism in February, was very exciting and interesting. Every man was in the game and he showed what good playing would accomplish. Our boys succeeded in fighting the mutes and winning the first game that had been taken from them this season. The students showed their enthusiasm by an unusual attendance at the game and with the spirit given out by yells and anxious faces. Metcalf was official and cast good decisions. The game played February 12 was a decided victory for us. The first half of the game was very exciting with a very close score, but the last half was slow and uninteresting on account of roughness and fouls. The best feature of the evening consisted of a royal reception given in honor of the two teams and the members of the faculty by the H. C. P. girls. We owe a great deal to the girls of that club for their successful entertainment. Toasts were given by members present and all spent an enjoyable evening. Who'll say that the Weber academy hasn't a strong team and who'll say that the Granite boys were not disappointed. Friday, the 19, was looked forward to with anxiety on the part of our team but the smile on their faces after the game was very expressive. |
