Show 24 THE ACORN On February 23, '09, Azalia Goddard and Genevieve Williams entertained at a Washington's Birthday luncheon. The table was decorated with red, white and blue ribbons placed from the corners and crossed in the center. At each end and in the center were nine lighted candles placed in three red apples. Vases of red and white carnations and ferns were on both ends of the table. The white place cards were tied with narrow red, white and blue ribbon, a hatchet and cherries were painted daintily in one corner of each. A charming and unique banquet was given Friday, February 19, '09 by the Rosebud Sorority, in the school dining room, in honor of the Granite High School and Weber Academy Basket Ball teams. The decorations carried out the color scheme in purple and white and the table was artistically strewn with purple violets and white carnations in great profusion. Place cards of lavender and white penants tied with violet ribbon were stood against tripods of lavender stick candy tied with white ribbon. Each of the five courses carried out the color effect. The whole dinner was planned and faultlessly served by the domestic science girls belonging to the sorority and was pronounced one of the most elaborate and delicious repasts ever given in the school. After the banquet, games and music were provided in the Sorority club room for the guests, and not until twelve o'clock did anybody once think of breaking up the merry party. How to Cook a Husband "The first thing to be done is to catch him! Many a good husband is spoiled in the cooking. Some women keep them constantly in hot water, while others freeze them with conjugal coldness; some smother them with contention, and still others keep them in pickle all their lives. These women serve them with tongue sauce. Now it is not to be supposed that husbands will be tender and good if treated in this way, but they are, on the contrary, very delicious when managed as follows: Get a large jar, called the jar of carefulness, put your husband in it and place him near the fire of conjugal love; let the fire be pretty hot, especially let it be clear; above all, let the heat be constant. Cover him with affection, garnish him over with spices o pleasantry, and if you add kisses and other confections, let them be accompanied with a sufficient portion of secrecy, mixed with prudence and moderation."
