Show School Notes Assembly Happenings It was Student Body morning Wednesday, November 4th and a splendid program was carried out. Vocal solo Robert Binnie. Readings Mathias Tanner. Piano solos Maud Farley and Carrie Browning. Vocal solos Mrs. Saville. The closing number was a piano duet by John Snedaker and Owen Ridges. On November 11 the Faculty arranged for separate lectures for the boys and girls. Dr. Edward Rich talked to the boys while Dr. Joseph R. Morrell addressed the girls. These lectures were very instructive. A special assembly was called at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, November 17. Miss Vera Jones sang "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground," after which Chancellor George H. Bradford addressed the Student Body. He gave us a number of splendid thoughts. He said that the key to success is to know ourselves. He also said that school is a place where you have your laundry done, preparing you for your work in life's highway. He advised us to make our preparation as thorough and complete as possible. We had an interesting Thanksgiving program, Friday morning, November 20th. Miss Josephine Shorten rendered two pleasing vocal solos. Mrs. Norma Sears Evans delighted the students with four interesting readings. Bishop Ridges then gave the Thanksgiving address, which was very instructive as well as interesting. We were then favored with a piano solo by John Snedaker. The talk given by Ned C. Hanks, on the morning of November 18th, was a treat for all present. Mr. Hanks is a blind man, and is additionally handicapped by being without hands. In spite of such difficulties, his thoughts are full of sunshine and optimism. The subject of his talk was "The Devil's Funeral." In this, the main idea was that the devil has nothing to do with tempting us, and that we are wholly responsible for our own conduct. Many practical ideas were given, and the students who came should fully appreciate their value. ACORN 13 Lecture Course Already three members have appeared on our Lecture Course. Chancellor George H. Bradford delighted his audience on the evening of November 16th with his talk on "Study of Economic Conditions." He handled this vital question in a masterful way. Everyone felt that they had received a great message from a great man. Ashton C. Shallenberger appeared on the evening of November 18th and spoke on "The Common Man." It gave the audience an insight into politics and their responsibilities as American citizens. Everyone who attended the Apollo Concert certainly received a musical treat. These able musicians and entertainers proved a great success and filled every expectation. Such numbers make our Lecture Course a success. Student Body Room The Student Body room has been transformed from a barren and empty room into a bright and cozy office. This metamorphosis is the result of calcimined ceiling, burlap on the walls, grained woodwork, a new rug, a beautiful chandelier, new curtains and artistic decorating touches done by the occupants. Pennants and pictures adorn the walls, and the Student Body's two silver loving cups are very appropriate in this new office. It is one of the prettiest rooms in the building and we are glad that the Student Body officers have such a pleasant place to carry on their business. The Kitchen The Domestic Science girls can now boast of everything modern, having been given a new electric range by the Utah Light and Power Company. Already we had three good coal ranges and a good gas range. Now with an electric range added we feel perfectly equipped in the way of heat. We also appreciate the two new sanitary sinks presented to us by our board, and, of course, the girls have no objection to washing dishes now. Cooking and dish-washing now made easy, the department will soon not be able to accommodate all who wish to take Domestic Science. Junior Ball The Juniors proved themselves excellent entertainers when on the. evening of November 20th they gave their Junior ball. The hall was decorated in their class colors green and white. Punch, wafers and candy were served from a prettily decorated booth. The dance programs were appropriate as well as attractive. |
