Show 14 ACORN Our Music The students of the school are manifesting their interest in a school orchestra and band. An organization has been formed with the following officers: John Snedaker President Lorenzo Williamsen Vice-President Hugh Anderson Secretary and Treasurer Owen Ridges Librarian The organization will furnish the music for school functions. We are to have only school music at all of the dances, and our band will appear on special occasions, such as school games and contests. We hope this line of work will be successful. For two years now we have carried off the honors in basketball. In a series of inter-class games, the Seniors won successively from each class. Our class will be exceptionally well represented on the main team this year. We are expecting to turn out many splendid public speakers from our class before this school term has expired. In the extemporaneous speaking contest series, the Seniors won the first honors. Harvey Taylor and Cora Kasius represented our class, and were recognized as the best speakers. Ronald Jensen and LeRoy Leishman were our speakers in the next contest, but the Juniors won by a very slight margin. These contests will be held throughout the year, and we expect to win more than our share of the honors. The Senior class party was held on the evening of November 10th in the Domestic Science Room. The boys, as well as the girls, wore white aprons, and all were industriously engaged in preparing a dinner. Tables were set in the sewing room where the four-course dinner was served by different members of the class. ACORN 15 Junior Sayings The Juniors gave a matinee, the first one this year, on October 27th. We greatly appreciate the turnout of the students. Our class party was given November 11th. Everybody had a big time. We intend to "pair off" for every party hereafter. The second of the extemporaneous speaking contests was won by the Junior class. We are very proud of our green and white banner and mean to work hard to keep it where it is, above the school. Sophomore Thinkings The Sophomores are beginning to make themselves noticeable. We gave a successful party, and everybody had a fine time, dancing and playing games. Punch was served, while dancing, and later we had a delicious lunch. The following Friday the Sophs gathered in the kitchen where candy pulling was enjoyed. Games were going on in the hall while the candy was cooking. The extemporaneous speaking has caused a great deal of interest in our class. We have tried twice with the other classes, and have been defeated. That doesn't make us lose hope. It only makes us stronger. The first time we tried out, the speakers were Elwood Winters and Elda Ririe, of whom we were proud. The next time, the speakers were Lament Poulter and William Smout. Their speeches were very good. They will be orators some day that Weber will be proud of. We are looking forward next time to the Sophs winning the honors. Christmas is drawing near, and we wish all the students and the Faculty of Weber a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Freshmen Foolishness We appreciate the past favors shown us by the other classes, and especially the 13th of November, when we had our first class party which was proclaimed a great success. We realize the difficulty the Sophomore class labored under when they had to stay within their limits (the down-stairs halls), but we greatly appreciate the way they did, although a few could not restrain, and rushed up the stairs to join the merry Freshmen. We sure have been showing the school what we are made of, especially in the extemporaneous contests. We carried off the honors in the first contest (?), and in the second, it was not announced, but the general feeling was to the effect that the Freshmen had won again (?). In athletics we fought hard. Although we did not win, we sure did make a good showing for new material. But failure is not defeat. We are also very, very grateful for the suggestion given in the last issue of the Acorn for our class pin. It sure is a pin to be proud of. |
