Show EDITORIAL A Student Body Ticket We, as a student body, are now considering a proposition which, if adopted, will have a great effect upon the advancement of Weber. The proposition of which I speak is the student body entrance fee. This fee will mean as much to the student personally as it will to the student body. Just stop and consider the amount of money that one would save by purchasing a ticket at the beginning of the season, for the sum of three, four or even five dollars, which would admit him to all student body activities, to all lectures given under the direction of the lecture committee and entitle him to one year's subscription to the "Acorn." The manager of each organization would know, at the beginning of the year, exactly what he could do, because his finances would be sure. The greatest good, however, would be the social benefit the student would gain. This is the most effective way of getting the students to attend the different activities and the ones who do attend are the ones who get the most out of school life. It is due to this fact that such a low rate can be made. We are now running our activities by charging half of the students full price, but the same high-class entertainments can be given by charging all of the students half of the regular price and thereby make sure of the support of the entire student body. Before we can secure these conditions we must have the consent of the Board of Education; therefore, we must show them that we are in earnest and all work to carry the amendment and to put it into effect at the beginning of the next school year. For the last two years Weber has not had a band. But this year, from all appearances, we will have one to help us shout our victories. Band music is certainly inspiring and we are sure that if we have Professor Nichols and the boys back of us, we can win all of the games, track meets, debating and public speaking contest that Weber takes part in. ACORN 11 Something New How many of the students who attend the basket-ball games and school parties have noticed that we have sung the same songs, given the same yells and danced to the same tunes now for a long period of time? It has been said that "variety is the spice of life." At any rate, variety would add a little spice to school life and a change would be much better than a rest. With the talent that we have, such a condition should not exist. It is not rag-time music that we want. We have been complimented many times on our high-class music and we intend to keep the standard up. Good music is the only kind that can live long and that is certain proof that ours is good. Now that our needs are known, cannot someone come to our aid at least once in four years? Get Busy Students, we want the "Acorn" to be a school organ, not a class paper. If you will notice, most of the material is furnished by the Seniors. We realize that we have a very clever and humorous faculty, but we also know that the students can keep up with the instructors. Please give us some student phunisms. Remember that next year's staff will be almost entirely selected from the classes of '14 and '15. Unless we receive more material from these classes in the future than we have in the past, no one will ever be able to judge their ability. |
