Show SCHOOL NOTES Devotinoal Doings On December 15, B. H. Roberts talked to the student body on "The Relation of Christ to Us." His talk was very interesting and instructive, and of great benefit to students who are studying theology. Bro. Dixon has given a series of short talks in devotional on "Psychology" and "How to Study". If the students carry out the plan of studying which he has made, we will have a fine bunch of report cards next month. Bro. Wilson has also given a series of talks on education. He took the well known definition of Brigham Young's "Education is the power to think, act and appreciate," and based his talks on it. A series of extemporaneous contests are going to be held every two weeks in devotional. Two members of each class are chosen to represent the class. The first contest was held Wednesday, February 9, and the Seniors carried off first honors and the Sophomores and the Juniors tied for second place. These contests are being held to arouse enthusiasm for this line of work. We had an interesting program Wednesday morning, February 3. Mrs. Althea Zinth rendered two pleasing vocal solos. Professor T. Earl Pardoe addressed the student body on the subject of "Expression." The Misses Gladys Peterson and Adella Warner, pupils of Mr. Pardoe, gave two interesting readings. Mrs. Johnson read "In Pippa Valley," by Gilbert Parker. She delighted her audience with her pleasing way of rendering this interesting story of the Canadian Northwest. Bro. Thomas E. McKay, a member of the Board, talked one morning in devotional exercise. "Utah Products" Contest To promote interest in the home products movement, the "Utah Manufacturing Association" offered for the best exposition written on ACORN 12 "Utah Products," a beautiful gold watch. The contest was between the students of the school. Miss Lamont Poulter of the Junior class was the fortunate individual. The School Play Twenty-nine students are breathing easier now than they were on the 15th of December. The reason? The school play is over and it was a great success. Director T. Earl Pardoe is to be complimented on the excellent coaching he gave the cast, which made it possible for them to give such a good presentation. There is a possibility of the play being presented at Logan, but definite arrangements have not been made so far. Senior Leap Year Party After waiting patiently for three years for the Senior boys to wake up, the girls took matters in their own hands and gave the boys the time of the year. The party commenced at 7 o'clock and games and dances were indulged in during the first part of the evening. The girls then escorted their partners to the dining room, where a most appetizing luncheon was served. The class colors, red and white, were carried out in the table decorations and in the menu. Everyone had a fine time and declared that, after all, the girls were the royal entertainers. Acorn Party To partially reward the staff members for their hard work this year, a party was given for them. Everyone was happy and declared Editor Thompson a fine entertainer. Games, eats and stunts formed the main features of the evening. |
