Show 22 ACORN In the second half the players came back with more determination than was displayed in the first half. The remainder of the game was close until the last few minutes of playing, when the Weber boys scored seven points, making the score 30-23 in Weber's favor. WEBER. Lineup. O. H. S. The Sophomores defeated the Freshmen by the score of 3-2. The Seniors lost to the Juniors, the score being 21-1. In the final game of Sophomores vs. Juniors, the Sophomores were victorious. The score of this game was 7-4. Our prospects for a winning team in baseball are very promising. Of last year's team we have Layman, Herbert, Monson, Farrell and Fuller, and with Nixon, Critchlow, Art Stallings, Greenwell, Parry and Cy Ferrin we believe we can form a combination that will be hard to beat. Greenwell, Parry and Cy Ferrin are pitchers who will make the other high school teams travel to win from us. The backstop end is well taken care of by Herbert and Layman. The infield and outfield will be as good as any high school can put out. We regret the loss of Lon Ferrin and Joe Smith, because both of these men are catchers of the highest order. A city school league has been arranged to include the State School for the Deaf, the State Industrial School, Ogden High School and Weber Academy. The league games begin April 7th and end May 20th. When we commenced track work this spring we found that not having a track would cause us to work at a great disadvantage. But the boys are working in preparation for the meet with our sister school. We have found some good men in Belnap, Bassett, Nixon. Dies, Richards, Jensen, Barlow, Brown, Bingham and Poutler. The inter-class track meet will be held sometime in April. Alumni As the end of the school year approaches, all members look forward with pleasant anticipation to the Alumni Reunion. We hope that every member will arrange to be present to meet the class of 1914. Our hearts go out to the new members. We have had the same problems and the self-same difficulties and know something of what it means to be a high school graduate; and to realize for the first time, perhaps, that we are going out in the world to be "about our Father's business." "Life is real, life is earnest." We have but one to live, and to ourselves and to our God we owe the best we have, for our eternal progression and happiness and the glory of the Father who gave us birth. If we could say one thing that we feel more than another at this time, it would be the motto, "Live for your dreams." The world of thought that we build for ourselves is the real world in which we live, and, as one has said, "Air castles are just as easy to build as air dungeons, and they are so much more pleasant to live in." Also we can testify that dreams do come true and that we do come into a realization of our dreams. We shall be glad to welcome the class of 1914 and wish them the success which we sincerely feel they desire and shall attain. We highly appreciated the remarks of Dr. Peterson at our recent devotional exercises and hope the members of the Student Body took them sufficiently to heart to dream of the application. With the modern slogan, "Back to the farm," to the co-operative and productive life, Utah presents her wonderful possibilities. Add to the state's natural resources the fact announced by Dr. Peterson that while we have not yet produced leaders, we have produced every high degree of universal education in the state and the possibilities for a great commonwealth to grow broader. With our unexcelled climate, the glory and strength of our mountains, the richness of our soil, the good market which surrounds us and the nearness of our educational system to teach us the use and value of these things, no Utah boy can say "I didn't have an opportunity," and we trust no Utah boy shall ever be compelled to say "I didn't take the opportunity that was given me." |
