Show 32 The Acorn In connection with their new high school, Brigham has built a gymnasium and will therefore be in better trim to meet their opponents this year. We hope to boast of a gym. ourselves before long. Love, one of Granite's last year's star players, has played on the "U." football team and is one of their best athletes. While this is the only loss to last year's champion team, Ashton is temporarily laid up from football injuries. It is our hope as well as theirs that he will recover in time to enter the coming games. The School for the Deaf and Blind has all of last year's men on their team and is doing daily systematic practicing with designs upon the championship. In a practice game they beat the Y. M. C. A. second team. Salt Lake has walked away from the other state high schools in football this year, but basket-ball is something new for them and so, well, anyway, just wait and see. Friday, Dec. 3, our team had a lively practice game with the Y. M. C. A. of Salt Lake. This is the champion team of the Rocky mountain region and we feel proud of our boys for holding them down so well. During the first half the home team seemed awed at the reputation and great size of the visitors. The first half resulted in a score of 30 to 11 in Salt Lake's favor. Something must have been said to our boys, for in the second half they made 13 field baskets to their opponents' 10, making the final score of 52 to 37. The whole affair was a decided success. Salt Lake congratulated us on our splendid work and on the whole our prospects to win the pennant are most encouraging. Christmas, 1909. 33 Hi Le Hi Lo Hi Le Hi Lo The W. A. is on the go.
