Show WED. MAR. 5, 1919 Buisy getting ready to go away THURSDAY 6 Dr & I took the train at eleven A.M. to S.L. and attended the services of our dear friend Mammie Stauffer who died of the Flu a few days ago. At four thirty took the train for Calafornia to be gone a couple of weeks Left Oertel at home & good help. Sat 8 Fri 7 Arrived at Barstow about noon had lunch took the Santa Fe Road for Grand Canyon of Arizona on the train all night arrived at Needles about midnight bought some bead neckless of the Indians on train all night. Sat MAR. 8, 1919 El Tovar Arrived at the Canyon at eight oclock took room at Hotel El Tovar on Rim of the Canyon. A beautiful Hotel and the grandest scenery I have ever seen After a good breakfast Dr and I took a seven mile walk most of it on the crust of the snow. I got a good Sunburn But enjoyed it very much. Attended a Lecture by Kolbe Bro. SUNDAY 9 Dr took Bright Angle trip today started at eight this A.M. this trip takes one down into the canyon to Colorado River a hard but very interesting trip on a donkey. Dr & I got back to Hotel about 6 P.M. Did not feel well so remained at the Hotel a delightful place MONDAY 10 This A.M. Dr & I took a tramp on the West rim of the canyon a splendid road and a beautiful morning this afternoon we witnessed a Blizzard or new storm in just part of the canyon while the west part was sunshine a wonderful sight |
