This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Wednesday, November 10 Attended funerals of Sisters Harriet Jackson age 87 and Dr Packards wife age 84 both splendid LDS women Stormed a little Thursday, November 11 Armistice day. Stormy we have been home all day. Dr Jr called. A Mr Hyer called and read some biography of myself for history of Utah. Talked to Avon in Los Angeles onn phone. Her birthday is tomorrow. She is dear girl Friday, November 12 Go to Community Concert at Hyh School. Hear Nelson Eddy sing. Did not like it He is lazy and put on a poor show. Saw little poor stuff. He is sailing on his reputation and not on his present merit. A letter from Thair after six weeks from Okanawa. He is well. Think his stay may be 13 months longer. There has been bad cyclone there. Saturday, November 13 A very nice letter from Oertel she lives in Oxford Ohio. Dr has written all day on his fathers biography. Irene Gardner died quite suddenly at her home in Logan. Niese of Drs. Nov 13 1948 Irene R. Gardner Utah State Agricultural college accounting department, died suddenly at her home, 439 North Sixth East, Friday night. She was born at Blackfoot, Ida. the daughter of Samuel J. ani Anna Page Rich. She was married to Prof. Gardner a member of the Logan 18th ward of the Church of Jesus She had been active in both the Fifth and the 18th wards, particularly in Relief society work. She attended school at the University of Southern California and was graduated from the USAC in 1922. After graduated she taught school at Grace, Ida. She was a member of the American Assn. of University Women, member of the Clio club of Logan and past president of the USAC Faculty league. She is survived by her husband, a son, Richard D. Gardner, who is serving a mission for the LDS church in The Netherlands; the following brothers, S. Grover Rich, Salt Lake City; Walker S. Rich, Blackfoot, Ida.; Roscoe C. Rich, Burley, Ida., and Elwood Page Rich, Blackfoot. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the W. Loyal Hall mortuary of Logan. |
