Show 1956 Projects completed during this period were: 1 - Cairn Curran Reservoir Constructed by Utah Australia Limited for the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission of Victoria. The site was located at Cairn Curran near Maryborough, Victoria, and the project was completed in approximately nine months. Project involved construction of an earth and rock fill dam approximately 130 ft. high with a storage capacity of 240,000 acre feet. Construction involved the placing of 650,000 cubic yards of fill, construction of a reinforced concrete outlet tower 130 ft. high, a concrete spillway structure and road bridge, three 60 ton radial gates each 37 ft. 6 in. wide, a 220 ft. steel access bridge to the outlet tower, and various other items of specialized metal work. Cost of the project was approximately $1,000,000. 2 - Wayatinah "B" Tunnel Constructed by Utah Australia Limited for the Hydro-Electric Commission of Tasmania, this project was completed 6 months ahead of the scheduled time. The project was a 5,500 ft. long 19 ft. diameter concrete lined tunnel. Construction required the excavation of 80,000 cubic yards of rock and earth, the pouring of 30, 000 cubic yards of concrete, and the placing of approximately 1,000 tons of steel for support and reinforcement. Approximate cost of the project was $3,000,000. 3 - Chihuahua Dam Tunnel in Mexico for the State of Chihuahua in the amount of $400, 000. 4 - Tennessee Shafts Two shafts and a connecting drift were involved in this $1,130,000 contract at Jefferson City, Tennessee. One shaft was a circular vent shaft, 12 feet in diameter and 1180 feet deep. The other was rectangular, 13 feet by 19 feet and 1300 feet deep. The 8 ft. by 10 ft. connecting drift measured 7,800 lineal feet. |
