Show and water carriers, and for drying, sorting and storing various types of grains. Its shiploading installation could transfer more than 9,000 long tons of grain aboard ship in an 18 hour period. All phases of the project, design, engineering, procurement and construction, were completely coordinated, and directed or performed by Utah, Approximate cost of this project was $2,905,000. 14- Stockton Elevator Waterfront Work Both receiving and shipping by three methods - rail, truck and water - were provided for in the 2,500,000 bushel grain storage and shipping facility for which Utah had been both engineer and contractor. A wood pile dock 240 ft. long by 60 ft. wide, and two shiploading towers and spouts, permitted ships or barges to be loaded in two holds simultaneously, or unloaded into storage silos. Also included in the project was the dredging of some 61,000 cu. yds. of material from the San Joaquin River for approach channels. 15 - San Manuel Copper Corporation Project - Utah Construction & Mining Company and the Stearns-Roger Manufacturing Company (Joint Venture) General - Engineering management of the San Manuel Copper Corporation Project included complete engineering design, and engineering supervision of construction of approximately 60 million dollars worth of mine surface structures, mill, smelter and other facilities. A brief description of the major features is as follows: Mine Surface Facilities - Two 6,000 H. P. ore hoists, having a capacity of 875 tons per hour each from the 3, 000 foot level, two 180 foot structural steel head frames and guide towers for the ore hoists, two 5, 000 ton ore bins, one 1500 H. P. service hoist, one 110 foot head frame for the service hoist, one shop building extension approximately 5,000 square feet in area, one electric shop approximately 4,000 square feet in area, hoist house for ore hoists 14,000 square feet in area, hoist house for service hoist 5,000 square feet in area, a two story change house approximately 18,000 square feet in area and miscellaneous facilities including electrical supply and utility lines. Ore Transportation Railroad - 35,000 tons of ore would be transported daily from the mine area to the mill area over a heavy main line railroad approximately seven miles in length requiring two approximately 90 foot high steel bridges, one re-inforced concrete and steel highway overpass, culverts and miscellaneous appurtenances. |
