Show Design Engineering - The Design Engineering Office was located in Tucson and was under the direction of a Design Manager. A branch design office was maintained in Denver. All engineering design originated and was developed in the Tucson Office. Detailing of a part of the design was carried out in the Tucson Office and the remaining design was forwarded to the Denver Office for detailing. Both office were supervised by a Design Manager and a Chief Design Engineer. An Assistant Design Manager supervised the Tucson Office in the absence of the Design Manager and Chief Engineer. The Tucson Office consisted of the following additional personnel: 1 Assistant Chief Design Engineer 2 Metallurgical Engineers 2 Process Engineers 1 Engineer, Senior (Electrical) 1 Material Engineer 8 Design Engineers 1 Checker Engineer 11 Layout Draftsmen 5 Draftsmen The Denver Office was divided into two sections, one of which was under the direction of an office head and included an expediter, an assistant accountant, blue print machine operator, stenographer, telephone operator and messenger. The detailing section was under the direction of an Assistant Chief Detail Engineer and consisted of approximately 34 draftsmen. Design Volume - The design volume included design and detail drawings for all of the facilities mentioned above except the two railroads, the Administration Building and Hospital as mentioned later. The forecast of drawings was for a total of 1535, not including sketches, clarification drawings and revisions. In addition to the design and detailing of the above mentioned drawings, the design group specified and requisitioned all items of engineered and process equipment. Ore Transportation Railroad Design - The design of the Ore Transportation Railroad was by independent consulting engineers. Foundations for the two main steel bridges were dependent on future exploratory investigations, however, and were designed by the Construction Engineering Division to suit job conditions revealed through these investigations. Approximately 15 drawings were required. |
